Hyper 212 evo

regardless better cheaper options on the market are now available with better mounting systems etc. That said kinda hard to beat the long term pedigree the 212 series has earned. Cryorig M9i and M9a come to mind as well as their H7, Raijintek Themis as well as the be quiet pure rock. Depending on location their is the Silentium PC Fera 2 etc. Lots to choose from but the CM cooler sticks in peoples minds as it was the first cooler to truly be entry level but hit about its price class.

the most valuable fact is that Hyper 212Evo and Plus are pretty affordable options that perform pretty well, also if you add a second fan could get even better results, and also using better compound than the supplied one your results could get even better, and the last secret [not so secret after this…!] fact that delided processor could get better temps…. makes this cooler pretty interesting option against other heavily priced options …

Well FWIW....

I have used 212evo's with push/pull +4-5 other fans on an i5-4690k, a Xeon E3-1240v3, an i7-4770k, and currently on an i7-4790k (all overclocked by at least 400-900mhz) in 4 different cases/mobo combos......

Results: neveranottaproblemo :D :)

The highest loaded temps I have seen with any of these set-ups was 66c. Even with stress tests (prime95, occt, aida), I've only ever seen 79c once or twice...

Seeins how I only paid $20 for the 1st one a few years ago...., I have to agree with the "best bang for the buck" crowd here !
(Even now they are only $29 on amazon!)

but as always..... yMmV . . . . .

Its the FAN not the HeatSink in the 212 EVO that's worth it. US version the EU version is weaker.

Xigmatek proved slapping a kick ass fan on a small HS will do wonders with the Night Hawk.

proofs?
Evidence?

Either 212 (Plus or Evo) are great bang for the buck. Yes, there are better coolers out there, but for just a little more money you can have a 212 perform like a much more expensive cooler.

Simply replace the Coolermaster fan with a Jet-Flo. Just the one fan. If you look at specs, it looks loud, but that's only at max speed. It pushes so much air in a direct path through the fins, it rarely gets over 50%!

If you hear a jet-flo at full blast, you either have a serious problem with your CPU/APU or case airflow is horrible. Anyway, just my thoughts.

theres better coolers than the CM for the same price both in terms of performance and features let alone build quality etc. The CM literally loses to coolers smaller than it now. Its not a holy grail of a cooler.

Correct, and I'm aware of this, as evidenced by it not being in my main rig.

Just offering an option for those that have one to improve performance in lieu of replacing the whole heatsink.

It will rotate a little if you force it but just dont. The 212 has been the "best bang for the buck" cooler for over 10 years. There is nothing negative about this cooler

People have been able to get incredible over clocks with this budget cooler. The Corsair H100 barely beats this cooler in stress tests

The only negative thing of mine is I had to replace the fan since it was making funny noises. I replaced it with a Jetflo one and it's been good. :)

Says the one that recommended it to me :p

Its a fine cooler its just been surpassed.

Cryorig H7 Universal

Better build quality
Same option for dual fans
100% memory clearance
Better warranty

The socket specific M9i or M9a from CRYORIG tend to be $6 cheaper than the 212 EVO for the same performance. But the H7 is the better overall option.

Scythe katana 4 also comes to mind smaller size same performance.

But yeah CRYORIG H7 is hands down the best budget cooler around.

Not too bad of a price on that..

The only thing it could make it even better is if it had the same mounting system as noctua coolers do.

i am right?
Yes, the Plus has spaces between the heat pipes, the EVO does not.

I have recently obtained a Thermalright True Black to replace the 212+ I was using on my 3930k.
Was able to drop load temps from mid 70s to low 60s. That said the 212+ has been an awesome cooler,
I just expected a bit much from it as I'm running a 44x overclock. I'll be putting it on my G3258.

one question though; would mounting the cooler so heat pipes are perpendicular to the haswell die be better?
to me it seems if i dont only two heat pipes will contact the hottest part of the CPU.

Well, I am using an evo with a 6700k @4.8ghz, and get loaded temps of 62-67........

depends on your definition of "better". But I have my evo running this way on my 6700k, and it was like this on my last 2 builds (z97 & z87/4770k & 4790k) nottaproblemo :)
