I need a firewall that allows me to easily block / unblock programs.

why not both tho?

Do you need two dogs guarding the same bone?

One firewall is all you need. More than one, if nothing else, just wastes system resources.

layer it like an onion bruhh

? One what? Not sure I follow..
Two dogs guarding same bone. One doesnt have teeth therefore cant bite and defend said bone. Need dog with teeth as backup. Two dogs guarding a bone :)

Bad logic.

We have to be responsible dog owners as well as responsible security managers for our computers.

It would be irresponsible to have a toothless dog that cannot even defend himself (perhaps from the other dog) guarding a bone.

So I stick with my original advice, with a little clarification. Do you need two "healthy" and "able" guard dogs guarding the same bone? No.

Why in the world is this thread still going, @95Viper gave me the answer I wanted in post 17. lol

The same reason why forum users have no account privilege for locking their own threads ... it's out of your hands now

That being said, both hardware (router) and software firewall should be used at the same time ... router should be blocking unused special purpose ports (e.g. remote desktop and others) and dynamically blacklisting IPs (ddos detection), software firewall for whitelisting only the executables user uses.
TinyWall is good for that, it's not a custom firewall - it uses windows firewall and only alows you to edit its configuration in a sane way (as opposed to microsoft's UI) and actually has secure default settings for windows firewall (as opposed to microsoft's default settings)

Many very excellent points.

@BiggieShady I plan to give TinyWall a shot for sure. Cheers mate

my only issue is TinyWall has not been updated since 2016... hmm...

There's an old saying; If it's not broken, don't fix it.
I regularly use a bunch of programs that haven't been updated in over ten years. They don't need updating because they work and do what is needed of them. TinyWall is a perfect example. It's not a firewall itself but rather a front-end UI for the Windows builtin firewall. You're good give it a try.

Ah, you were talking to people in my ignore list... My bad, sorry.
