Intel Puts Out Benchmarks Showing Minimal Performance Impact of MDS Mitigation

So, are they trying to say that HT isn't worth enabling anyways? Then why charge a premium for it? Haha, silly Intel. Tricks are for kids.
 
I'm waiting for a Phoronix review. Michael has done it for the other mitigations and I bet you he'll do it for these as well. This exploit is a little more damning for WIndows than it is for Linux because you don't need elevated privileges to use it in Windows whereas you need to be root in Linux. Honestly though, I think this is a lot like the spectre v1. It's that exploit that's so annoying to use that it's damn near impossible to do anything useful with it, yet we're bending over backwards to kill performance in order to mitigate the possibility of something with root access using this exploit to do something more malicious than having root access as malware in the first place.

By the way, did you notice that Intel's 52-week stock price is at a low? Might be a good time to buy. We're going to be seeing a dedicated GPU and some MCM goodness in the future, right? :roll:

Im going to wait about 5 months to do that, right now AMD is the star -- this exploit and then the fact that in June there will be an inexpensive 16 core design that will compete with intel's $1700 leaky monstrosity.

AMD might hit $40 off this in the summer... (if the trade talks don't completely implode).

But then, Jim Keller is working at intel now, and has been for a while. Might be time to go all in on the next round.
