Intel Releases Corrective Firmware for 34 nm SSDs

Shortly after its launch, Intel's trophy 34 nm X25-M G2 solid-state drive was found to carry a critical bug that potentially renders it useless if the BIOS HDD password was set or changed. Intel is ready with a firmware update that corrects the issue. Users of X25-M G2 series SSDs can avail the firmware update, and relevant information here.

Following this, Intel will resume shipping the 34 nm, second generation SSDs with the correct firmware in place.

These baby are still out of reach for many people. Maybe next year it will get faster and cheaper.

I don't feel like flashing mine- I'll wait till the next version that brings performance improvements or TRIM (which I'm not sure I need since I'm using Ubuntu).
I think the sheer time that this drive saves when resuming my laptop(maximum of 5 seconds) is worth the extra cost. The shock resistance,power consumption and random reads just make it shine.

I had a look at the details and there were no changes for the Generation 1 drives. They just combined the recent G2 fix with the previous updated G1 8820 firmware into one ISO download to make it easier for users. No need to scratch your head. Just download one ISO and it will work no matter what Intel SSD drive you have.

$230 bucks is hardly out of reach. Prices have dropped like a rock thanks to Intel. Makes for a nice fast boot drive with your main apps on it and you can use your old drive for everything else.

exactly. power users, enthusiasts all want a fast active drive and 80GB suffices for that. last year I paid $300 for the 150GB velociraptor and that was too much. in this case, I have all the gigs I need and am paying almost 1/3 the cost

so basically, SSD's arent ready for mass storage but they fit the bill for your active drive
