they dont perform or overclock as well clock for clock though - but yeah, cheaper and probably easier to get

k , lol , tnks for additional . Will look at recommended amd. The real pita right now is deciding on a cheap mb. I have yet to look at the Filipino web site recommended, but the pc express website is a true nightmare. They have all 100 mb just listed with no differentiation between intel , amd , atx, micro atx etc. I find myself going to new egg, trying to find something worthwhile and just plugging the name into pcxpress' search function.

Overclocking can be hit or miss generally even with the "exact same" hardware as someone else. That said, many of the higher end 45nm Core 2 chips such as yours could do 4Ghz+ on air pretty easily, especially the dual cores.

IMO with the prices of 45nm quads like the 9550, its better to get 1156 or something along those lines

as others have said, 775 is dead and AM3 is the best budget platform at the moment.
