Maybe, david is supposed to be sending the documentation, but I thought you said yours was fried? mine def isnt, it will boot to windows now but just crashes everytime the desktop comes up, I am at my wits end!

I am just about to undo the mod and see if it will work as normal.

Did you let Damulta solder on your card?

i look at buying 1gb now like i did about buying 512mb back when i got my x1900xt/xtx card, it was a bit more then the 256mb version, BUT once the drivers got updated to take better advantege of the extra ram the perf went up a good bit, same will likely be true with the 1gb vs 512 cards.

or when i got a 256mb x800 insted of the 128mb version that was just as fast in early benches but was a good bit cheaper, the 4.12 drivers REALLY boosted the perf of cards with the extra ram, even older cards like 9600/9800 cards with 256 insted of 128 got a nice boost from those drivers!!!!

if its not that much more to get the extra ram, go for it, unless ur a persona who dumps his card every 6months, then go with whatevers cheapist you can possably get because theres no point in spending more then you need to if you dont hold onto a card for more then a few months at a time.......

Lol no, I did it, am in the UK remember, it's causing me real headaches now but at least it's not fried!

I have now tried both a variable and fixed resistor, I have got to be missing something here, I have just sent DaMulta the diagram and stuff as he wants a go, hhope he has more success than me, I have voltmodded about 15 cards in the past but never had this trouble, although this is my first non reference board.

For the first card, I thought my soldering skills were lacking or something, as it's been a while. On the second card, my soldering was perfect, and I followed the diagram, so I assumed it was my VR. It was the only reasonable explanation I could come up with. Now that you're having issues, I'm beginning to think that either we got something wrong reading the diagram, or our diagrams are wrong.

Yes, my thoughts, I will let you know tomorrow night, I am going to get my teccie friend with the electronics business to do the mod for me, that way at least I will cut out user error (mine!). He will do it in 5 minutes and I will let him have a study of the diagram. I un did the mod last night and the card is working OK (acccording to my daughter who is playing some girlie pink barbie game with it!)

I waiting on a response from the factory on exactly where the points are. If you'd be willing to create a tutorial of sorts I'd be willing to give you the inside scoop.

If the RMA department gets any cards with "extra" solder on them they have my permission to send them back. LOL

Palit has no issue with anyone applying this mod to their card but it is done completely at your own risk. I'll do everything I can to get Tatty all the info he needs to do it correctly (in as much as that's even possible) and I hope he shares that info with everyone freely. I really enjoy seeing people do amazing things and this certainly qualifies.

No, 1GB isn't a waste of money on high res gaming with games such as Crysis. Crysis easily uses more than 512MB of vram. And the bus width isn't gonna effect how much ram it can use.

I say get the Palit card. I love mine so far. Mine loads to about 60C OCed. If it's the Palit I'm thinking of, it also has 3 phase power, which is better than the reference design. Do you have a link to the exact cards you're looking at?

Yes, but on a game like Crysis, the GT doesn't have the shader power to keep up anyways, so at the resolution or settings he'd use in order to run the game smoothly, 512 would probably do alright. I suppose someone could run it with shaders turned way down, but..well... what's the point of playing Crysis then :) ?

Agreed about the Palit card.

Firstly, you are right but anything 700mhz core (and I have not come across an 8800GT that wont do 700mhz) and above really does start to show real benefits in crysis....you may be pleasantly surprised, at just 16xx x 10xx you could potentially see at high detail with AA enabled easily 5+fps benefits (and more in higher res) and in a game like crysis every FPS counts in some of them levels.

I think the general consensus is however, the 1GB card is well worth it if it's is not going to cost you a big premium over the 512MB card, if it is just $20 - $30 more, IMO it is money well spent.

As for the Mod......this is not an official Palit site so I couldnt comment on that!

You can't just cut out part of what I said and call it the policy. If I say a thing, because I'm the Consumer Marketing Manager, that makes it policy. I'm not going to plaster this all over our corporate website because this is covered under our warranty statement which isn't changing. That would be redundant. What I'm saying is that we think it's a great idea and we love to see cool stuff like this. I think Ford likes to see Mustangs win drag races but that doesn't mean they support people hooking up nitrous to their car.

So the policy, if you HAVE to call it that, is that Palit has no issue with anyone applying this mod to their card but it is done completely at your own risk. I want to be clear on the at your own risk part. Don't try to RMA a card that you soldered on. That is the only condition. If you volt mod your card we're not going to replace it if it dies. I think that's perfectly reasonable. If you start putting aftermarket equipment on your car that pushes it beyond what Ford intended would you expect the Ford dealer to fix it when it breaks?

But just because we're not going to warranty it doesn't mean we don't like to see people doing cool things with our cards as long as you understand that you are pushing the card beyond anything we ever intended it to do, that you do so by your own choice and that we aren't responsible for replacing the card at that point.

So yes, I encourage people to do this kind of stuff as long as they understand what they are getting into.

I get it we buy the card so we can do what we like with it, but this at our own risk, palit will only allow RMA of factory settings cards because they will only fix what they made so to speak.

Its like this if we buy a Nintendo DS and we try to flash it and it bricks thats our fault but say one of the screens just wont work then its not our fault it was made with a fault.

So if he mods the card it becomes his responsibility not Palits or its subsidiaries.
Just orderd the card today i hope that it comes tommorow or before Friday!!! :rockout:
Should be better than my old x800gt i have just now LOL

Right.

The difference is that I'm willing to go get the solder points, resistor specs etc. you need to do it (at your own risk) successfully. Or at least improve your chances of doing so.

I'm not saying no other graphics card company has done that but I'm not aware of it.

Palit wants to support all our customers as best we can. I'm just glad that I get to work with you guys. We also support some system builders that do government contracts and such with cards that absolutely do not change period. Imagine that, there are actually customers that don't want us to improve RAM speeds, heat sinks, BIOS etc. The card absolutely can't change. While that isn't as much fun as this, we still do it because that's what they want.

So for those of you that want to volt mod your card, why not? It doesn't hurt me to tell you how to do it because I'm being quite clear that it's all on you. So rather than have you throw away money trying to figure it out, I should be free to assist where possible.

And that's all I'm trying to do.

sorry changed the order to a 8800gt 512mb because the 1gb didnt include 17.5% vat we have to pay over here in the UK so it ended up being way to much for the extra 512mb memory

i like how we just have 10% GST tax. and its always included in the advertised price.

The cooler will crank up when gaming - i suggest modding it if the sudden change annoys you, and alter it to a smoother raise.
