Looking for SLI motherboard

I'm just looking for a solid SLI motherboard. I'm in canada so there won't be any newegg or anything going on.

is my current pick but i'm having trouble finding much information on it.

I plan on getting a q6600 with it and i'm concerned about room for a heatsink (either a sythe ninja or thermalright 120, depending on how rich i'm feeling.


Its not too late to switch to a crossfire setup though as i haven't bought anything yet, but i'm kinda leaning towards the 8800gt which is why i chose SLI.


edit- and yea i plan on overclocking to hopefully around 3.2ghz for my q6600.

q6600+680i= a big no-no for oc'ing.

i'd recommend getting a 780i board.

Well the 780i is a lot more expensive, an extra $60 or so, what would be a better choice with SLI then.

Lol thats funny, i was looking at that exact motherboard right now. But yea it looks like my choices are crossfire or saving up a little more money for the 780i.

Well considering the cost, a single card nowadays seems to be the big price vs. performance thing to do.

PS: It is possible to crossfire a 3850 with a 3870

lol, well my reasoning is that the 8800gt's seem to be about the same price as the 3870's, and provide slightly better performance. So originally the idea was to get a SLI motherboard buy a single 8800gt 512 and OC the q6600 to around 3.2.

But it doesn't look like this is as viable as i had hoped.

Well the prices don't really scare me, basically i have a budget of around $1200 or so for everything. I already have ocz plat ram that i can use on it as well as a dvd-burner. This is all that i have right now which is missing just a video card. However it seems which video card and which motherboard are still up in the air.

Naw no injuries really, just enough to damage my car and get not enough insurance money for it . Theres a few places that ship to canada, NCIX just happens to be one of the better ones in my opinion. Also tigerdirect.ca and a few others but i weighed out the prices very carefully. Overall for this order ncix is cheapest for me.

Do you mean buy one card now, then another later for SLI? Or do you plan to stick with just one card?

Yes, two HD3870s in Crossfire > 8800GTs in SLi, mainly because Crossfire is more efficient compared to SLi. I mean, its partially nvidia's fault for not upgrading it. Single card performance wise the 8800GT beats the HD3870 by a bit.

IMO, the P35 board is a little bit nicer and has more cpu support. Crossfire or SLI, it doesn't matter either cards he is planning on pairing together will rock.

Yes please show me a benchmark where Xfire 3870's beat SLI'd 8800Gt's.

Here is a review for XFired 3850's VS. 1 8800GTS G92 512.

1 Card vs 2 Cards.

Even with 2 cards the 3850's only walk away with a couple of "minor" wins. SO imagine the 8800GTS in SLI.

As proof of concept, the human eye can only detect a difference in such a high fps though.

IMO, I still say Crossfire/SLi with 2 killer cards = e-penis.
