I’m not sure I have this question in the right place, or if it’s even ok that I post this question, if it’s in the wrong area, I would ask a Mod to please move it. What might the value of this PC be? I have no idea, but I’m thinking about “maybe” selling it, but I need to get an idea of cost. I probably will have to sell it locally, because this thing weighs as much as a small truck, shipping would be insane. This is something I just considered today, so it’s no emergency to sell, or get answers to my questions, just wanted to throw it out there, to be fair to the buyer and myself.

This is basically what the PC consists of:
ASUS P6T Deluxe, LGA 1366/Socket B, Intel (P6T DELUXE V2) Motherboard
i7 920 Processor
AMD Radeon HD 6670 Graphics Card
12 GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600)
I think it a 750-watt PSU it black in color it appears to be the original, and it’s “very” heavy also.
LG Blu Ray DVD/RW
Some sort of multi-card reader
I believe they call this case the Alienware Area-51 7500 or Alienware Area 51 7500-R5 (Predator) Computer Case “not real sure what it’s called”.
Also as an option, I could throw in my 120 Gig PNY SSD with Windows 10 Ver. 2004

On a scale of 1-10 10 being the best, I would say this whole PC, including the case is a solid 8, it's all in very good shape.

Thanks Bill

These are not actual picture's, but they're pretty much just like the one I have. I can take the actual pictures of it, but for now just looking for an idea of a fair value.

Scrap value.

Systems with i5 4570s can be had for $150-200 and an i7 920 offers half that performance.

I just bought a HP z400 workstation with a xeon 4c/8t i7 920 equivalent, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD and GT 630 iirc for $50 obviously case, psu, ODD etc all included as well as a licensed copy of Windows 10. Unfortunately these old systems even though power houses in their day seem to go for peanuts, it's a buyers market and I can buy a $20 6 core xeon and a AMD 570 for a pretty sweet secondary gaming PC at hardly any real cost.

That said you might have better luck if you part it out as you could probably get $50 for the motherboard on it's own, $20 for the CPu, $20 for the RAM, $20 for the GPU and maybe $40 for the case/PSU if you list on ebay, or you could get lucky and list it locally asking $150 obo and see if you get any offers, gumtree/locals would be best for the latter scenario

In all honesty, you'd probably spend more money shipping it somewhere than you would get from someone buying it.

You might get a few bucks here and there selling it off piece by piece for someone specifically looking for parts, but that could take a long time and be more hassle than it's worth.

The GPU isn't really worth much to anyone, not to mention it's not supported for drivers on anything past Windows 7. Even when it released it could barely play Metro 2033 on 1024x768 (https://www.techpowerup.com/review/powercolor-hd-6670/17.html).

The PSU - just because it's "heavy" doesn't mean anything. It's old and I wouldn't trust it to running any kind of system with a heavy, constant load

Maybe offer it up on a local listing, as long as she works, for $100 - see if you get any hits. This way you don't have to pay for shipping and might get a couple of bucks for it.

I appreciate the replies, I understand this is an old PC, and it's not going to bring a value of a 55 Chevy on a scale of 8 on the condition. My other option is, just toss the component's, and put 21st century component's in the case. :D

Rule of Thumb - Take your build cost and then subtract 10% .... then 5% for each month of age for 6 months (60% value at this point) ... then 10% for every 6 months thereafter.

0.5 year old - 60% of build cost
1.0 - 50%
1.5 - 40%
2.0 - 30%
2.5 - 20%
3.0 - 10%

That's 12 years old ....

The case will make it a tough sell ... I think you'd have better success parting it out w/ somebody needing just 1 part to keep the "classic PC" alive. Another option .... giving it to an grandma or an elderly relative to use to share pictures of the grandchildren or an aunt to keep her recipes on.

All great feedback, I sincerely appreciate it. John said: "I think you'd have better success parting it out w/ somebody needing just 1 part to keep the "classic PC" alive." this is probably a good option. It's not that I need to money from this sell to build another PC, I personally like the case, but I'm and old dude, I'm into some old stuff, but I'm not a hoarder either, it's very easy for me to let go of some things, "well except for the girlfriend" I kind of like having her around, she's pretty and smart, and she keeps my stress level down. :D

I think you under estimate the price of the hardware inside... I mean a quick eBay look at your motherboard... click this to see

X58 systems etc. still hold value and some more than you could imagine. Some components are cheap, others not so much. Do some looking around. If you want rid, then sell it. If not sell the parts or keep and use it as another system for something? (maybe for the girl friend?? ;))

Just my two pennies worth....

Keep in mind, this guy @phill , is a known HOARDER!! LOL

Keep the rig and dont part it out or sell it - it simply isnt financially worth your time to go this route....

However, this thing of beauty will be a lovely thing to own in 10 years time, and get all nostalgic about in the process. :toast:

Most of the more efficient kit is used for crunching, so it's never a bad thing :D :D Too many experiences of trying to sell something and bad postage, someone at the other end... Nah, I'll keep hold, I can make things and use it :D

But I'm off track, we can give you ideas or points of view @Mr Bill but ultimately it's down to you want you want to do and what you think things are worth :) Checking eBay is always a good start to be honest, never hurts to see what is out there and what eBay has it up for :)

So are you saying, that I should post this in a Hoarders forum, that it might bring hundreds of dollars. :D

Now I'm seeing some wisdom finally arrive in the comments.

Never scrap a working system. The parts are worth more than the whole.

In another decade or so, that system will be worth a lot since that case will be next to impossible to find, nor will working parts. You could think of it as an 'investment'. :D

Sounds like some sound advise, another thing is, as you said the case even now is a hard find, I've seen them going for over $200.00 on Ebay. we've all heard the old saying, "One mans trash is another mans treasure", and this one “Value is What Someone is Willing to Pay”. I think packing it up good and sticking it in my storage room is probably a great idea.

Got to love this persons optimism---He does have 17 watchers... :D https://www.ebay.com/itm/Alienware-...045745?hash=item1f124d5b71:g:Qy4AAOSwvpde-N4i

I'm not quite as optimistic as these sellers, but maybe they, like me are in no hurry to sell, so why not just put it out there "as a best offer" and see what it can bring.

You'd definitely get some good money for it, certainly more than $50!! :D

There's a Rampage 3 Black Edition on Ebay in the UK at the moment, it's going for £500.... I'm not sure how many offers he's had for it mind but....

Seems like 150...

Just because someone threw up a 200 dollar price for the case on ebay doesn't mean anyone is buying it there.

I'd just keep it as a backup pc and play around with it more.

ive seen those go here in the UK for around £100 mark if in fair good condition, theres quite a few folk who like collecting AW kit but havnt a clue what it would make state side with the postage being quite high compaired to here. goodluck.

Hi,
Neat case
Probably faster than any smart t.v. still graphic's is the worst part I believe.
Buyers market.

I took a 13 year old Q9550 and cheap 980ti and put it in my entertainment center works well for a bunch of spare parts even water cooled the cpu lol

Just in case anyone missed the first part of the movie.. :D I'm not trying to justify it's value here by posting links to eBay and what they're sellers are asking for their PC. My original post was only asking for a fair value, trust me, I have a VERY thick skin, you're not going to hurt my feelings no matter if you say I should pay someone to take it. :D I've never sold any of my builds since 1984, I have always given them away, when they are no longer any benefit to me, and if I entertain the thought this one is not longer needed or a benefit to me, I will give it away, or maybe use it to build a time machine and send it back to 2009.

Just saying.. if your case is in decent condition, you might get a collector to buy for a higher price, but im not sure how rare these actually are.

If you look really hard, you might find a scratch somewhere on the case. This is why I thought about just keeping the case, and using it for a 21st century build. Anyone that has ever had any experience with these cases, they are heavy, real heavy. No, being heavy doesn't make it any better than the newer cases, but I do like the layout, and you can almost crawl up inside the case and work, and I also like the fact all the cables are run behind the board, between the right side door and the back of the board, like some of the newer cases, makes for a clean looking setup inside.

Take the older parts out and do a completely new desktop with the blue alienware case.
Like lots have said, each day those older cases are getting rare. You can make it into a sleeper build, old on the outside but fast-as-fud on the inside.

if it was mine id keep hold of it, its got character , it would make good sleeper build. id put it in the loft so later i could rediscover it like i do with my old telescopes.
