I think you give all of TPU way less credit than it deserves
Agreed. However, kapone32's statement does illustrate the continued "fanboy" nonsense that happens regularly. Of course, how does one draw the line? We techies are passionate...

It's all well and good that we have opinions and want to express them, and are irked by misinformation.
True, here's the question: Are the users stating that misinformation doing it deliberately or are they misinformed themselves?

We don't hand out free passes for "well, he STARTED it", so don't start whining about how you didn't see the *other guy* get punished too.
Nor should you, especially if someone is asking for special treatment. However, who started it is a factor that always needs consideration. There also needs to be consideration for blatant bullying and group harassment. Someone who defends themselves from such should never be dealt the points, even if they cross the line defending themselves. The defenders should never be dealt anywhere near the the same level of consequence, if any, as those who are doing the attacking. This is common sense and if anyone is not practicing that ideal, they're doing something very wrong.

True, here's the question: Are the users stating that misinformation doing it deliberately or are they misinformed themselves?

On that:

The first would be classic trolling - which is infractionable. Ultimately, a serial troller gets banned if they don't heed their warnings.

The second case is ignorance, which we all experience until we learn more. However, there are cases where people don't want to learn more and won't budge, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. This is usually where people pull out the 'I saw a YT guy saying this'. I call this a flat-earth mentality.

When things aren't so black and white (i.e., what's your favourite game?), you just have to grin and bear the shitshow (unless people resort to baiting and insults).

Well, that's the thing about people. You can feel very passionately about something, and still have absolutely no effect on how someone else decides to feel about it.

Hey folks!

This thread's all about you guys sticking it to the mods. Please stay on topic and don't start turning on each other. That's beyond satire.
This is just beautiful. I need room for a far longer sig to keep gems like this.

You're saying he has AI implants? :twitch:
That's why half the things i write look like i've taken too much ADHD medication, and the other half look like ChatGPT stole my homework.

I gotta catch up on how many people i've managed to offend and ban while I was offline being sick, it's always interesting when people PM me for banning them when I wasn't online or remotely near a computer, yet it's happened several times.

Would be nice to have a warning before being locked out/issued points
We do. They get ignored a lot. A lot lot.

Points aren't exactly going to harm you, i've collected a few. Does the system not show to our victims how many points before they can't post? That's feedback that may be viable to @W1zzard and reduce some of the anxiety from users.

iirc it's 15 points til you can't post (but can still PM) so if you managed 5 points a week 3 weeks in a row, you'd only lose a week before you're down to 10 points and posting again. We can set custom times too, sometimes people mid-mental-breakdown i'll give 15 points for 24 hours so they can sober up, or un-sober as needed.

If you are speaking of the thread "OFFICIAL Cyberpunk 2077 Game Discussion"... I do not see where you are thread banned there.
Today I learned we can reply-ban from specific threads. That's cool.
This should be a clue to how few bans i've had to actually give out over the years here.

Or just missed. If I'm replying to a post that was a reply to a previous post of mine I will probably not look at all the other previous posts, especially if it's a hot topic with many posts. On multiple occations I have seen the warning (as posted in the thread) long after I made the off topic (or whatver) post. Add to this I might spend some time trying to interpret my thoughts to words and maybe I miss the "There have been more replies added" or whatever the notification say, and I just hit reply and then stay away for a few days.

Heck i do that, i've had myself posted in locked threads since mods can bypass the locks. Then i have to edit in apologies.

The problem then becomes if 5 people post after the deletion and warning, without time machines and spyware we can't tell who posted knowingly and who did not. The fairest response is to equally delete all that content, and give the same minor infraction to all parties - and come down heavily on anyone who continues after round two.

The mod crew here is doing an excellent job. The level of professionalism displayed by what is undoubtedly, mostly unpaid volunteers, is admirable.

Same here and I take it with the same relevance as a sign saying you're about to enter a minefield - Tread carefully or not at all.
Doesn't matter to me how I've posted earlier, I normally take a few to watch and see what "Tone" the thread develops and go from there with it.

If anything its too light, I think I have only been moderated once which was for a rule breach, and right now is AMD kids trolling a intel tech discussion thread unmoderated.
What I don't like is how some users can jump into AMD threads and post pages of negative narrative without context and we normal users are left to deal with them.

Firstly, there is no such thing as an "Intel thread" or an "AMD thread". This is a public forum, every thread is public, which means any and everyone can post in it. Don't like that? Don't start a thread here. It really is that simple!

Secondly, your complaints about "trolling" and "negative content" are complete and utter rubbish. What's actually happening is that people are posting misleading and/or nonsensical information in those threads and getting called out/corrected on it, and for some reason you feel personally attacked when this happens. But here's the thing - that's a problem with you and the ones posting incorrect information, not the people correcting it.

I never use the ignore feature, both here, and at other sites as a regular member..

I would rather read and disagree rather than ignore.

Mostly because you never know when someone will say something that will change your mind about them..
I'm incredibly thankful for the "ignore" feature because it allows me to avoid having to interact with people who, when presented with objective truth that conflicts with their views, double down on their bulls**t - because to them being correct is more important than honesty. I have no time for such deranged and dangerous individuals, whose vile conduct consistently poisons attempted honest discourse. Given how terrible it is to interact with those people here, I have an incredible amount of sympathy for those who have to deal with them in real life.

There are different ways of correcting people though. You can be an ass about it or not.

Plus it's interesting how one man's objective knowledge is another man's opinion. One of you might consider it fact and the other might consider it opinion. Without derailing the thread, I have an example from this very forum: the amount of VRAM on GPU's. Anytime that is brought up there will be tons of posts with how much is enough. Remember the RTX3060 vs 3060ti arguments over which card is objectively better? That has two objectively correct answers, depending on the point of view (this was just an example).

I do not want to reference actual user names but let me give you an example of what I am talking about. Someone posts a thread saying that they are getting AM4 or AM5 but they are not sure which CPU to get. Then specific users will come in with Intel is better so you should go with that. Then there are the users that tell you how weak your CPU and GPU are because Youtube says so.

Your kidding right? When these same users call me names and refute what I am saying, I will use 1 user as an example. "The 5800X3D would not improve performance of the 6500XT" at 1080P. Do you believe that too? Or maybe "How did you go from AM4 X570S to AM5 X670E? Or maybe the 7900X3D is not a good CPU because TPU says so (Even though they have never reviewed it).

With a Gothic font for LQ posts? By the way, it could be done even in the (unlikely) case it remains in English.
