Mouse changing pointer by itself??? [Solved!!]

Id report this to AMD forums, card manufacturer and mozilla dev and waterfox dev.
This issue has been going on for over 15 years, so good luck with doing the right thing on this one.

Never seen it on a 9700 Pro, MR9800 X1950 Pro, or my 290VaporX.

It is NOT an issue for most people no doubt but having said that it is an issue for many. I had the issue on my X1950 Pro and and others.....

I think the problem is pinpointing the source of this. The fact that, when i take a screenie the pic comes with the mouse correct while it's NOT correct the rest of the time clearly indicates that the problem lies in the graphics driver, somewhere between what gets sent to the clipboard (the screenie) and what gets visualized in the monitor. I seriously doubt it's the mouse unless everyone affected by this uses the same mouse.

Remember what happened with that frame pacing thing that proved that, though FRAPS was showing X amount of frames, many were not being displayed? I figure it's something close to that.

EDIT

Just posted a short video on my youtube channel (used to be for my D3 videos, but no longer):

For reference, this is the pic i took while taking the video:

A lot of people are focused on fire/waterfox as the issue - i used to get this in game only, company of heroes mostly.

this is definitely a long standing ATI driver/hardware issue, and the only fix was to get a new card - that said, this is the first time i've heard of it on such a modern AMD card instead of older ATI ones.

I've noticed this mostly on FF because i've been reading a Korean light novel (LMS again), which makes me use the mouse while on FF for longer periods of time. I've yet to spot this problem while gaming, unless it's already like this when i start the game, which it was when i made the video.

EDIT

Also:

This app makes the mouse vanish when playing grim dawn. Dunno about other games.

EDIT #2

Here's another video and pic:

Really?

I got a mail saying the post was approved so i guess i said what i said the "right way".

I had an issue with Amd External Events Utility in W7 and I stayed on top of it until the Relive Driver came out which fixed the file for that utility atiesrxx.exe, wasn't banned from there.

they may have changed over the years, but every time i contacted them asking for information my new IP address just got banned too.

not wanting to drag this off topic, just wanting to make it clear this is a long standing bug.

Considering how persistent i was on driver reporting and finding every topic relating to my issue and posting 2 new ones, this was an issue from 16.5/16.6.1s, didnt get burned. I did report back on those topics that the issue was resolved, so per chance they got complaints about those mods banning users and they aren't there now.

I dunno what you said nor "how" you said it so i'll refrain from commenting on that further.

Sometimes, what one says isn't as important as how one says it.

Returning to the topic of the OP: so far, i've yet to be replied to on AMD's forum, unless you count the mail i got stating my post had been approved by the moderator(s). The topic @ AMD's forum is yet to receive other replies as well :(

EDIT

Perhaps the timing is bad: the weekend ...

Start tagging it and look for other topics there. Report the issue on the driver page too.

Known Issues 16.12.2

thank F its a known issue, that means it'll go away in a release or two

Yeah my issue never appeared in that area- it took them 7 months to fix it...

2 things:

- it's not just on RX480s, as jboydgolfer can attest. Also, if you notice in the AMD forum topic, while most are RX4x0 users, some are not.
- Intermitent in this context, to me, means it goes away by itself and returns. However this is not the case since if have to restart to make it go away (until the next time it does this): that's not "by itself".

Good spot, Toxic80! :)

Okay so I went threw all of the
Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.x.x Release Notes

And found that the mouse cursor issue started with the release of
Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.9.1
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-art...are-Crimson-Edition-16-9-1-Release-Notes.aspx

--------------------------
I did however see that there is no note of this issue in all the earlier version so maybe you should try version 16.8.1
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-art...are-Crimson-Edition-16-8-1-Release-Notes.aspx

Still wishing you luck!

I had the same issue but after I have Installed 16.12.2 and I cleared the BIOS(see the timing of memory), reinstall OS, the problem disappeared. But I remain with an issue that I can't resolve. :banghead:

Seven years ago with HD5850 i had the same issue- mouse pointer- and with white/grey screen on the firs day I bought the video card. The next day the video card was dead. The next one stayed in my computer 2 years with GPU OC from 725 to 1000MHz.:rockout:

Follow up news.

I've installed drivers 16.12.2 and, so far, i haven't seen this sort of corruption, even though there's a mention of mouse corruption affecting RX480 users in the known issues, as pointed out by toxic80.

No replies in the AMD's forum mouse corruption topic, after i posted my post there.

Dunno if it's related but something different is happening though, while playing grim dawn: when i alt-tab to the desktop to try and find the locations for the bounties, i type in the search engine (firefox, using duckduckgo) what i'm searching for but what i type appears VERY SLOWLY and while it hasn't caught up to what i've typed, i can't use the mouse to click on something else because it's locked in the writing cursor. The mouse moves but i can't select anything. After (what i typed) finishes appearing, the cursor becomes useable again. Don't have the camera handy to record this behaviour and won't be able to do so in the next few days, unfortunately.
