After years of saving, I was finally able to get enough to upgrade my pc. I bought a
1. hauppauge 500 MCE Edition
2. Ati 850pro (hence modded to xt, thanks to this forum)
3. Creative X-Fi Sound Blaster Card.
4. Kingston 512 mb Ram 400ddr.
My other components Specs are:
1. AMD 2800 Barton.
2. msi k7n2 deltan.
3. Two Ram Chipsets of 256 mb each 333ddr.
Now I came home, added all the components to my computer and tried booting, the system just would not boot. After struggling with it for three days; during which it sometimes booted and sometimes got stuck while loading windows, I went out a bought a new power supply.
Previously i was using a power supply that had come with my pc, now i am using 400w channel power supply. I tried booting again, the pc booted just fine. Hoorah i have knocked down the problem, it was a faulty power supply; No wait.
The next time i tried to boot, the same problem occured. Now i took out my rams out one by one.
On my pc there are three ram slots, two blue and one green. I had placed my 400ddr 512 mb ram in the green slot whereas placed the two 256 mb 333mhz ddr in the blue slots.
When i took out ram from one of the blue ram slots, the pc booted fine but when i placed the ram back in, it stopped booting. Hoorah, Faulty Ram, I have knocked down the problem, No wait.
When i tried the same ram in some other slot, it worked fine but not in the same blue slot. So i think that I have a faulty Ram Slot, if that means anything (if somebody knows better please explain; that's what i am here for).
so now i am left with two functioning Ram slots, one blue and other green. Now the problem is that windows does not detect my creative x-fi, i downloaded latest bios and drivers for both mobo and the sound card but still no luck.
Just on a hunch, i took out the remaining 256mb ram from my ram slot and bingo. My pc started detecting my x-fi. I rebooted my pc about a hundred times; but it still detects my sound card.
Now when i place my 256 mb ram back in again; sometimes it detects my sound card; sometimes it doesn't. Kindly anyone please help me because i am in a big mess here.
