Processor AMD VENICE 3800+
Motherboard MSI K8N NEO2 PLATINUM
Memory 2X256 TWINMOS (333DDR), 1X512 KINGSTON (400 DDR)
Video Card(s) ATI X850 PRO (UNLOCKED 16 PIPELINES)
Storage SAMSUNG EIDE 80GB, WD SATA 250 GB
Display(s) VIEWSONIC 19" CRT
Audio Device(s) CREATIVE X-FI
Power Supply CHANNEL 400 WATTS
Software WINDOWS XP MEDIA CENTER EDITION
After years of saving, I was finally able to get enough to upgrade my pc. I bought a

1. hauppauge 500 MCE Edition
2. Ati 850pro (hence modded to xt, thanks to this forum)
3. Creative X-Fi Sound Blaster Card.
4. Kingston 512 mb Ram 400ddr.

My other components Specs are:

1. AMD 2800 Barton.
2. msi k7n2 deltan.
3. Two Ram Chipsets of 256 mb each 333ddr.

Now I came home, added all the components to my computer and tried booting, the system just would not boot. After struggling with it for three days; during which it sometimes booted and sometimes got stuck while loading windows, I went out a bought a new power supply.

Previously i was using a power supply that had come with my pc, now i am using 400w channel power supply. I tried booting again, the pc booted just fine. Hoorah i have knocked down the problem, it was a faulty power supply; No wait.

The next time i tried to boot, the same problem occured. Now i took out my rams out one by one.
On my pc there are three ram slots, two blue and one green. I had placed my 400ddr 512 mb ram in the green slot whereas placed the two 256 mb 333mhz ddr in the blue slots.

When i took out ram from one of the blue ram slots, the pc booted fine but when i placed the ram back in, it stopped booting. Hoorah, Faulty Ram, I have knocked down the problem, No wait.

When i tried the same ram in some other slot, it worked fine but not in the same blue slot. So i think that I have a faulty Ram Slot, if that means anything (if somebody knows better please explain; that's what i am here for).

so now i am left with two functioning Ram slots, one blue and other green. Now the problem is that windows does not detect my creative x-fi, i downloaded latest bios and drivers for both mobo and the sound card but still no luck.

Just on a hunch, i took out the remaining 256mb ram from my ram slot and bingo. My pc started detecting my x-fi. I rebooted my pc about a hundred times; but it still detects my sound card.

Now when i place my 256 mb ram back in again; sometimes it detects my sound card; sometimes it doesn't. Kindly anyone please help me because i am in a big mess here.

Sounds like a Bios setting is wrong, check the Mobo instruction for using the blue ram slots.

Kindly explain it to me; i am a newbie

I'm not familar with your Mobo. In the Mobo istructions or web site should be an explanation of the Bios setting that control the Mobo. This may be causing the problem with Ram/ramslots. It could also be a bad mobo, or the fact that the ram is of mixed types.

If your is dual channel you have to have a matching memory chip on the other side. You trying to mix 3 sticks on a 4 stick board. you need to

A) put just the 512 in the closes slot to your PC.
or
B) place a 256 on in green one in blue which is 512 = to Dual channel(Faster than A).

damulta i do not understand, kindly rephrase. Also there are two blue slots and one green slot. I downloaded the manual for my mobo but i do not understand a thing written there.

Put the 512 in one of the two slots for single channel

OR

For one 256 on one side and one 256 on the other side

See if that works for you and post again.

Try putting the smaller 2 ram sticks in dim1 and dim3 and the larger ram stick in dim2. This seems to be what the mobo instructions are saying?

BTW one slot is blue, one purple, and one green.

Thankyou very much....i will update you with the results

I opened the case and there are two purple(which i wrote blue) and one green......in the handout it is written one blue, one purple, one green but in actuality it is two purple and one green.

anyways i placed the 512 mb ram in the middle slot and tried booting and it did not boot....i cleaned the ram slot but still the same result....then i pulled the ram out and put it back again and the system booted....my best guess is that probably my ram slot is loose or something........

But as of now i have the full 1 gb ram.......and also my sound card is detected..hoorah.....but let's wait till next reboot:)....thankyou all for your help....

One last question, with two 256 mb ram's am i now getting the dual channel ddr performance or not?

Yes, if they are in slots 1 and 3 only, or same size/type sticks in all three.

Thankyou very mcuh namslas90 and take care

So now i have 1 gb of detected ram and system is booting up properly but cannot detect my sound card. Everytime i boot, it says "windows has detected multimedia audio device". Can you help on this.

stupid question but have you installed the drivers for your sound card, if so try removing them and installing again, or get the latest drivers from www.creative.com

When it detects the new device and brings up the device drivers screen, say no to check windows update, then choose to install manually.
The next screen that comes up will let you choose a folder to look for the drivers. Point it to the windows/system folder
That is where all my x-fi drivers (.dll's) are

'Ocre

After days of wrestling with my system, i am finally resigned to the fact that my motherboard is screwed up. i have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers but to no use. My system works fine only when i have ram in slot no. 1 of mobo.

If i place rams in all three slots then sometimes it detects my rams and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it detects my sound card and sometimes it doesn't. So i have decided to to give my existing mobo + cpu alongwith my old power supply and graphic card (fx 5200) to my sister and buy myself a new cpu+mobo combo. The only problem is that i need a mobo with agp slot for my "new" graphic card.

Can somebody pleasetell me if asus a8v-x any good, as it is one of few agp slot motherboards available in my country. here is a link to it.

Thanks

P.S: One more thing. "is x850pro with 16 unlocked pipelines but without overclocking the same as x800 xt or not"
