Need help with my brother's CPU

....You folks really aren't reading are you? He does not want to remove Norton or test if it's it unless there's proof. That means ruling out most other possible causes. Like I've been asking for help on doing....WHAT ELSE, besides NORTON, could CAUSE this sort of issue?
EDIT: Yes, GPU drivers are installed directly. What can I check just to make sure and satisfy any questions of whether drivers for gpu are correctly installed or not. and what do you mean "or your 9600GT doesn't bump in to 3D speed get stock at 2D speed..unlikely"?
EDITEDIT: And I'll continue to check GPU stuff, but I really don't feel like it's the issue...

Meaning that 58c at idle & 62c in 3D (full) does not make any sense at all ... you should get at least 15c or more in 3D over idle temp unless the fan kicks in at 100% but still....idk?

If he got the Norton cd then why not try uninstalling for testing purpose?

Well, it's the Source engine, and everythings on the lowest settings possible.....4C, to me, seems like quite a bit, but then again...I dont really know temperature ranges so....And why would I need ANOTHER program to monitor temperatures?
---------
Because he just paid for a year of the 360 for the 3 of us (me, him, n the mother) and unless I can convince him to take it off ('temporarily') for testing purposes via evidence that other possible issues arent the cause...he wont budge.

Then don't uninstall it just shut it down run a game and report findings even if it is useless it helps determine other possible causes
EDIT: so yo can see your cpu temps

That won't be good enough Norton will still be "active" it needs to be uninstall & make a good clean up afterwards

Oh.....

I used that Anti Virus for 6 days.....It sucks..... In COD MW1 it took my ping from 47 to 75...

Live one care never affected my PING nor does Avast...

I will never use Norton again....

Great program for most..But not me

Actually, Ive had issues with avast if I recall correctly. McAffee is also the spawn of satan. And most free ones I get directly from their 'official sites' and most are....not so nice. But onwards. Anything I can check in regards to CPU? Really dont wanna bother with more GPU temp monitoring if I can avoid it for the night.

Wich OS are you using..XP 32 or 64?

Thought of game patchs?

It was suggested previously that the page file seemed small. Can you check that it has not been set manually to that value? Change it to windows managed if so.

You can check whether Norton or something else is chewing up your RAM by going to the task manager from a game and selecting the processes tab.

My brother said after the continued attempts to blame it on the GPU & Norton, and he says I can quote him xD;
"This isnt a medical drama. You aren't House. Give me (Him) other options".
EDIT: Pagefile isnt VRAM right? How do I check it?
And Id check the RAM, but alt tabbing a Source game is a very bad idea, and half of the games are either very intesive and hard to alt tab out of without even more lag, or even laggier in windows mode....or the other half, which are source games x.x

Last time I had a family member with a similar issue it was related to heat....
CPU heat but that was a dieing Cpu Fan....
PC booted fast then ran slow...
and if ran hard enough would crash after about 2 hours of hard running..

She had to much running all the time and the fan bearings simply started to wear out.

Her CPU was at 49c at idle....

I uninstalled all the background programs she did not use anymore defragged like 3 times in a row (3 hours) Replaced her HSF and TIM and VOILA easy fix

But before I did all that I monitored the system temps and I needed a program for that so I used CPUZ HW monitor since her MOBO maker did not have it's own utillity however if you do have a system monitor for windows by all means use that...

If it's not Temps Schedule a Memory Diagnostic...

Determine How many unnecessary Background process's are running

Nothing Still Try running a thorough Spyware Scan using a Different scanner than you have...Clean up your Regitry

Nothing Still After all that....

Format and start over...

Well, according to him, even after reformats (AND BEFORE NORTON IS INSTALLED) It runs relatively this slow. Thats why Im saying its not norton, and I dont think its GPU. I came here asking if it was CPU related, and how I can check for CPU related issues, but so far I've only had help in regards to telling us to take off Norton because 'it sucks' in terms of memory suckage or what have you or that the GPU might be overheating.

Troy - It was a joke x.x. Next time, remind me not to crack a joke in here.....

Uhm I've been calling for cpu temps since my first post...

EDIT: and i even gave you a link for TPU capture all in 1 tool for capturing a screen shot and TPU forum post..
with a simple 1 click Copy paste Image post

Forgot CPU-Z didnt have CPU temps. I suppose Ill go get Hardware monitor or w/e...Coulda swore CPU-Z monitored temp x.x....Gimme a few.

Okay, I got the CPUID Hardware Monitor...
Which particular section do I need to check?
There's ITE IT87, ECS C19A-SLI, ACPI, NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT (Obviously the GPU), ST3300620A, and WDC WD25 00KS-00MJB0.

I think my brother is gonna be sick n tired of all these tiny programs being installed, even if they dont cost much HD space...any chance I could just use print screen?

LOL at your brother,
run prime 95 while cuuz and HW are running then take the screenshot

A screen shot like this helps determine Hardware problems a lot quicker than 20 questions
a pic is worth 6 hours of questions

Excuse my ignorance but...why is it I need 3 different programs listing the same info? Also, his resolution is 1280 x 720 so...not easy to have the HW monitor show everything...

Each one of those shows how different parts of the system are running and what the effects are on performance and Temps
