Well, I didn't know thermal paste was called CPU TIM. If I'm such a noob at computers (which I am, I don't deny it), then don't use acronyms that I may not know yet.
I apologize for the rudeness, its just when you ask for other options just to clear them out of the way because the brother won't allow it...I really don't expect or want to be told 60 times in a row to do it anyway, or to do the same thing. This isnt my PC. I don't have free reign on what I can or cannot do. I came here to ask for whatever help I could be allowed by my brother to do. He trusts his friend, whos coming down....when he can, more than a forum he's never been to. It's expected, but it puts a limit on what I can do to test stuff. That means, in his rules, free software and virus protection and scans and uninstalling a year of Norton he just paid for is flat out unless he has evidence Norton itself is causing the issue.
I have checked CPU temp and listed it a few times, and it's been quoted once or twice. It apparently goes to 59C when idle. Now, someone said that's bad for a CPU. So I figure it might be heatsink, dust, or thermal paste as someone said earlier. But I didnt know what 'CPU TIM' meant so...
I apologize for the rudeness, but I kept saying that if it involved removing Norton or installing free virus detection or adware protection or w/e, it was out of the question on account of my brothers orders. I was asking if there was anything I could do to check without removing Norton or installing programs my bro wouldn't allow. You guys kept telling me to do the same stuff or remove the same program over and over when I repeatedly said he wanted to know if there was anything else. If there really were so many options, why was I never told of any others. The only possible starting things I've received are;
Norton being removed
GPU/CPU temp being tested
Paging File
Defrag rate
and maybe 1 or 2 others or so.
Again, I apologize if I was overly rude, but I was being frustrated at the fact that I consistently asked for help, and constantly stated/reminded those patiently trying to help me that some things were 'un-removable' or 'not able to be installed'....so to speak.
