Need help with my brother's CPU

It's most likely a thermal paste issue, as my brother said that recently, after it shuts off, he notices a smell...

Those come with the correct amount of thermal paste pre applied and they are cheaper than buying Thermal paste + once the CPU heatsink lets the CPU overheat it's always a good idea to replace the fan...

I just thought i'd suggest that cause I hate to hear about good equipment not getting used...

No. Hardly. Forgot what my reply was cause I didnt want to bother logging in lol...Doesn't matter now though. My bros friend is comin down in a week he says, and he always has thermal paste with him...so that'll tell us once n for all if its truly thermal paste, fan, or something else...

try Malwarebytes it doesn't take any resources (when your not using it) and comes recommended by me
(just remember to update it regularly)

Hate to 'bump' this but I just wanted to give an update. We found out his thermal paste probably wasn't applied very well, and there might not have been much of it from the start (so glad we're not using my mother's 'friend' anymore...what a rip off) that it had essentially turned to dust, or at least had been replaced by it lol. Well, my brother got all the dust out of the fans (dear god my brother has a dusty room o.o) and reapplied thermal paste. Running much better (it's A LOT quieter and he said he even noticed significant FPS improvements in Fallout 3.) So thanks again for your help. Sorry to anyone I may have pissed off ^^;...It's just, Norton 360 was not the issue in this particular instance, and we knew that for a face so....Thanks again for everyone's help.
