I bought this, i disable fast boot, in f2 bios the dvd drive is not being detected and i have no idea how to enable it. it does work though, because i have the windows 7 disc in the drive and when i get to my computer i can see it. You may be wondering why i am not keeping windows 10 on the notebook, well windows 10 sucks, ok. plain and simple. lol

You're gonna regret not sticking with 10. And good luck getting drivers for 7. The support page doesn't have any

I suggest getting another drive and in stall 7 on that keeping 10 on the drive in it now

Well i haven't got rid of anything, because in boot options the dvd drive isn't being detected. So I'm just going to sit back and mess around with the laptop/windows 10 and removed stuff that i don't need on the OS and just deal with it. Will report back in about 6 hours. I don't think there's wrong with the built in dvd drive, because discs work. But for some reason even an add on dvd drive i just pulled is not being detected in bios.

Anyways, let me see can i get everything working with windows 10.

Look in the bios for CSM or legacy mode, if its locked to UEFI only you're screwed for installing windows 7.

Just an update, I'm skipping using windows 7. I got everything working perfectly fine, using the classic shell menu and all the drivers are up to date for window 10. Videos at 4k work perfectly fine as well.

The only thing i can't find, how do i get the windows 7 my computer icon and put it on my desktop? I have classic shell install, but i don't see those features available. The windows 10 my computer icon is ugly and it looks stupid lol. also there's no option to drag it or place on the desktop.

My other question, how do i removed the windows 10 store, which is pointless to use or even have install. Windows 10 seems decent , but there's alot of junk that comes with the OS. I have removed most of everything which i don't need.

Except it doesn't. It is just a little different. And since it is human nature for humans to dislike change, many fail to give it chance and/or take the time to learn it. As with every version of Windows in the past that was considerably different than it predecessors, once the user got used to it, the older version became foreign. That said, it really does not take very long at all before W10 seem very intuitive.

The fact of the matter is, it is easy to make W10 look and feel like W7. W10 is more secure and easier keep it secure than any previous version. And of course, W7 is already 9 years old with mainstream support ending over 3 years ago!

And don't fall for all the hype from the Microsoft bashers about privacy. First and foremost, don't confuse privacy and security. They are totally different. Microsoft is NOT trying to learn your real name, street address, passwords, bank accounts, contacts, or other personal information. In fact, it does a better job of protecting that information than any other Windows version. And second, controlling your privacy settings with the latest W10 builds is not hard. If you are concerned about your privacy, you have MUCH MORE to be worried about from your ISP and especially your cell phone carrier. They already know your real name, street address and billing information - not to mention everything you do through their networks. And of course, you cell phone carrier knows who you texted and called, where you've been, where you are currently standing (including the aisle of the store you are in), the direction you are heading, and how fast you are moving. o_O

And as Jetster correctly noted, getting drivers for "legacy" and unsupported operating systems can be a real challenge with modern hardware - a problem that will continue to get harder and harder.

So give W10 an honest chance. Don't listen to the naysayers. Check it out yourself. If you just cannot (or don't want to) get used to the new W10 UI, That's fine! Check out Start10. This great little program brings back the familiar W7 Start menu and W7 desktop. It has a free 30-day trial period and if you don't like it, it uninstalls cleanly. But for only $4.99, it is well worth it. Also liked is the free Classic Shell but understand the developer has stopped working on it.

Well, after typing the above, you just posted this. Oh well, I think I will leave it for other.

I am glad you got it going and seem to be happy. I think you made a wise choice.

But note what I said about Classic Shell. As I noted above, the developer of Classic Shell has decided to cease development. See: http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8147

I would not remove the Windows Store. Just right click on it and unpin. You may need it in the future.

Well I'm keeping windows 7 on my desktop workstation gaming rig, been using it for years, no problems. As for windows 10, i will use it on my second workstation gaming system(AMD) when i get this winter. Windows 10 seems to be decent as i said, but i still like windows 7 better and always will most likely.

Nevermind , found it.

lol

How many times have we all heard that? As much as we all would like to predict the future, we can't. Nor do things stay the same. As I said above, it is easy to make W10 look and feel like W7. With that in mind, and the fact W10 is more secure, faster in most cases and getting better all the time where not - especially with modern (and future) hardware. And with W7 going the way of the dinosaur (and XP), it really does not make any sense to say you always will like W7 better.

No doubt, Windows 7 was a great OS. But so was XP, W98, W3.11 and DOS.

splurge for stardock start 8/10. classic shell has issues with font colors. I use windowblinds (got bored of the flat look and UXStyle and using visual styles doesn't skin everything and it's inconsistent looking) and a dark skin, well with classic shell start menu the font colors were dark on dark. No amount of changing stuff with resource hacker type tools worked. So off to splurge on start 8 and it works great.

Well, not sure $5 one-time cost for a lifetime license is much of a splurge for any budget! ;) But yeah, Start10 is the way to go, IMO. As for ClassicShell and font colors, that particular problem is not caused by issues with ClassicShell as ClassicShell (for now) works fine alone. The problem is WindowsBlinds with ClassicShell. The two programs don't play well together and since WindowsBlinds is from the same company (Stardock) as Start8 and Start10, and since ClassicShell is no longer under development, don't expect that issue to be fixed.

While I still think Start10 is the way to go, there are a couple more alternatives. StartIsBack and Pokki are two more popular start screen alternatives. StartIsBack is not free, but pretty close at $3. Note Pokki apparently has not been updated for Windows 10, but is reported to work in compatibility mode.
