Hi!

I have a laptop with a NVIDIA 940MX 1GB, but in all internet show information about 2gb version only, and the 1GB version nothing.

All benchmarks show the 940mx with 2gb, as if it are the only existing model.

The websites show that 1gb version of 940mx actually does not exist.

Nvidia block the 940mx of 2gb showing only 1gb?

Look that images.

Techpowerup show that have 1gb, but when click the button for more info the website says that have 2gb as unique model.

Why?. The 940mx is only 2gb but Nvidia restrict the memory to transform in lower end product?

Thanks you!

images arent showing up

To my knowledge the 940mx 1gb version only showed up in 1 or 2 laptop models. My guess is that you have that laptop model.

Model and brand of laptop?

GPU-z might be displaying the incorrect information.
I haven't done any in depth research but a quick Google finds two chips, the GM107 and GM108 as earlier mobile GPU's.
GTX 850M/860M (GM107) and GeForce 830M/840M (GM108)

Nah I prefer copy(cntrl+c) and paste(cntrl+v). For the OP 940MX comes with up-to 4GB memory config. It's not that fast gpu so 1GB should be enough for it. More important is the memory type, usually 1GB versions are with faster gddr5 memory. And those more memory versions are dead slow ddr3. Although I have to say that it's depends also which gpu version are your 940mx, with gm107 it has 128bit memory interface and with gm108 it has 64bit memory interface so memory bandwidth might still be low. So download gpu-z and check your chip.

Im half asleep at work and i kept tapping on the 'upload button/box' and wondering why it wasnt working...

Not that i have anything to upload in the first place.

Im so dead i tried it on multiple occasions and expected something to happen

Dude, this is the best laugh I've had all day! :)

Been there myself, lol.

There are 2 different SKUs which might explain the discrepancies

NVIDIA_DEV.134D = "NVIDIA GeForce 940MX"
NVIDIA_DEV.179C = "NVIDIA GeForce 940MX"

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-940mx/specifications

Rather vague specs on nVidia's part, on purpose I believe. They kind of leave it open to the actual laptop manufacturer to decide on the specs, or heck even the actual GPU. Some use the GM108 with 384 Shaders with higher clock speeds, and some use GM107 with 512 Shaders with lower clock speeds. They also let the laptop manufacturers pick the memory type and amount. So they can pick 1GB to 4GB of either GDDR5 or DDR3.

I think the first one is the GM108 and the second is the GM107. That is all the device ID really tells, the other specs are left up to the laptop manufacturer.

GM107 is 940M,
GM108 is 940MX

My laptop is Acer e5-575g with nvidia 940mx 1gb version. Its strange because internet only show information for 2 gb versions. I dont know the diferences in SKU versions or if use the same chipset as 940m.

What software show the correct info about my NVIDIA?.

We are still waiting for your original screenshot.

There's already a tool in Windows:
Start/execute/msinfo32.exe - components/display/adapter RAM

Otherwise HWinfo as mentioned before, GPUCapsViewer, CPU-Z

The first screenshot is original, from my computer.

Thats is others screenshot. (In HWInfo not show info about 940mx), its strange.

Yes all sites including Acer's say that this model has 2GB of VRAM
Maybe it's defective? (supposing it has 2 1GB memory chips and one of them is bad) Maybe try to return it or exchange it
Both the GM107 and GM108 have been used in the 940MX.
Thank you. I misread the Wiki's table.

Is not defective, because have a sticker that say NVIDIA Geforce 940mx with 1gb dedicated VRAM. For that reason is my doubt, because this vram quantity not appears in the internet.

Yes always trust those stickers

Then it only has 1GB :D

the weird thing is that I can't see the laptop model with 1GB VRAM

The ASPIRE E5-575G on the acer website says up to 2GB vram...

Anyways, if it works without any problems you're ok.

Contact Acer if you want to know more about this.
