NVIDIA Designs New GTX 460 SE Variant with 288 CUDA Cores, 256-bit Memory

Heck I've seen my 460 using 890MB just for WoW when I ran it with GPUz. Avg is about 300-600MB since patch 4.0.

Really don't see a point to this other than clearing inventory. Just hope it doesn't cut into the regular 460 price cuts. Was hoping to see them closer to $150 so I could snag a 2nd for SLI.

i hope its not gonna end up like 9600 GT fiasco where we have plethora SKU and each new SKU the card got crippled

I was just thinking, with less of the core active this may clock better than existing GF104's, making it perhaps the ideal folding card, as Iv'e heard folding@home won't take advantage of over 256 CUDA cores.

It definitely takes advantage of more than 256 SPs. My GTX470@1630MHz nets me just under 16,000 PPD while the GTX460@1760MHz only nets about 11,000 PPD. There is no way the GTX470 would be pumping out more PPD if it was limitted to 256 SPs, the only explaination for the higher PPD is the extra SPs. I think that limitation might have been on the GPU2 client, but not the GPU3 client.

cheers mate, good to know. misinformation is the gossip of teh interwebs.

looks odd like they had a bunch of bungled gtx 460 1024's and saw this as a way of salvage. defiently looks like it'll put the gts450 in a tight spot though.
