Nvidia Driver Watch - stability and performance evaluation

4K DSR + 144hz does exceed display interface specs in any case

It's just an internal resolution which is then down-sampled and THEN sent to the final frame buffer, the final signal sent to the monitor is still just 1080p at 144hz. I fail to see how that would exceed the spec of the display interface.

Dude, do you realize I'm using NVIDIA? You can also see I'm using Samsung 850 Pro. It takes 10 seconds to load the damn NV Control Panel (I'm talking usable state, not just window opening). It was always like this. And it's terrible. DSR used to work without restarting. Now it doesn't anymore for quite a while.

Its just as internal as the driver/NVCP setting for your choice of display interface; just because the processing happens internally doesn't mean it can't be of influence; but, I will test this when @ home, I also run a high refresh 1080p panel, so I can replicate @RejZoR 's issue. If I run into this as well, I'll add +1 to this 'minority' he's in :P Because it does in all honesty look like a simple oversight in design.

I agree , NV Control Panel is garbage , it's slow , it sometimes locks up the system when switching settings and often the settings are bugged out anyway until a reboot is done.

And you do realize I'm in the same boat as you? Even though I actually have an inferior SSD, I still do not experience this issue anymore, as it has been fixed. Moreover, the second PC that I have has a lot shittier SSD and it still works like clockwork.

Ok, just tested, took 4 seconds for my windows 8.1 system to load the NV control panel properly and my OS is installed on 850 Pro SSD.

Also I don't have to reboot my system to use any DSR function IIRC.

Launching the panel only take 4.33 second with a old and cheap Sandisk ultraplus, but that's still too long for something like that, photoshop take the same time to launch.

Just tried mine, barely even 2

I only tried DSR with Crysis 3 and when I would switch it on it would never work unless I rebooted the system while DSR was still on.

I can enter NV Control Panel quick too , however once opened up changing settings is a painful experience , it sometimes locks up the system for like 5 seconds.

Most of what the NVCP loads isn't on from the HDD gents. Its also pinging what is attached, etc.

I suppose I will consider myself lucky. I have never seen NVCP do that. :)

It is pretty much doing a preliminary scan of the apps or games installed so it can load the profiles for them, it used to take ages to load, change and apply settings for them, but not anymore, at least for me.

Nevermind what I said earlier, DSR is working without reboot, almost like VSR you need to change the screen resolution in the Nvidia control panel. with amd you could even do it with windows internal tools. Everything is so tiny and blurry. With AMD windows was scaling the UI accordingly.
I though that it was doing the change when launching a game.

Just turned that on for the sake of science, DSR worked straight away, and you could also change to those resolutions through the built in Windows resolution settings.

Well not for me, it's Nvidia control panel or nothing. That's odd. You can get back to the native resolution in windows resolution setting, but you can't select the drs resolution once it's done.

You don't change DSR resolution in Windows. It's meant to allow you to change resolution in a game. And that does NOT work without a reboot. Why would I change desktop resolution to 4K and make everything horribly unreadable? Not to mention it makes cursor gigantic.

You don't need to, correct, it is just to prove a point that it's working without ever needing to restart.

System lockup no - but the NVCP is not responsive for a few seconds after loading the window, and this 'hang' can also occur in other applications that have anything to do with display driver.

I suppose topic title is going to get changed to 'Nvidia Wall of Lament' now :D Getting vibrant over here

This is what I get :

Note the difference here between a DP connected display and one connected over DVI

I'll not say I told you so, but this is definitely a direction to research further. @dyonoctis can you use DP in your setup and replicate?

That's like saying car works, even though not at the moment... In a nut shell, it doesn't work.

@Vayra86
You need DisplayPort, otherwise you can only dream about 144Hz. You can get it over bulky, clumsy Dual Link DVI, but I wouldn't recommend it.

It does for me, already proved it above.

Might help or not, it also works on both of my DVI-DP connected displays.

I find it very unlikely that your driver is somehow miraculously different than mine. And this isn't just GTX 1080 thing, it's here since I had GTX 980. Across several clean installs of Windows. Different big editions.

Can't do displayport, but can do HDMI. And it's working.

What version? Latest? I'm on 385.41. I recommend you doing a wipe with DDU, if you haven't done so already.

He wiped windows so I have to assume a format and all that.

Anyway, it works for me too? I have a 1080 and a gtx 980...
