NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti to Have Crippled Crypto-Mining Performance

Exactly they are "real" but have no video output... so the Factories that make chips can only make so many a year right.. you with me here ???....
ANY chip that is being used in a Mining Card is a Chip that is NOT going into a gaming card... Still with me ???

Nvidia is trying to make more money.. they DONT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT where the money comes from ;)... if they can sell a Miner card that has NO resell value and therefore cannot affect Future Card sales they dont care about gamers ;)...

Any miner card is just waste... a Gamer card being used as a mining card will eventually sold and some lucky gamer will get a decent card cheaply secondhand... which also helps to drive down the value of New cards as there is less demand...

CMP that doesnt happen... CMP is REALLY bad for gamers.... and pretty bad for Miners (no resell value)

They're placing new orders for old designs on old nodes at old fab plants.
These die orders would never have been placed otherwise.
These mining GPU's were never going to exist for regular GPUs. Back off on the condescending attitude, you posted a link that literally says your view is backwards.

You do know that Nvidia is a business. They dont care about gamers or miners, you or me, or even TPU, they are a business. They are in the business to make money. It doesnt matter if they make more money or less money, has long as they make money and not go out of business.

That is false, companies that dont make more money year over year die out, doesnt make much sense but it is what it is, so yeah it does matter that they make MORE money.
but being a "good" company goes a long way towards making more money, public perception matters.

No matter what way they go there will always be whiners .... Gamers complain about the high price of new cards when gamers are the major cause of the high prices. Every time a new card comes out they are employing shopping bots and staying up late at night trying to snag a new card ... why ? Well 1) miners are snapping up the new cards.... and when a company comes out and says, we going to to gimp the cards to make them less attractive to minters, they are against that. The other reasion 2) is, in the instagram era, ones social status and sense of wealth is tied to having the latest and greatest, phone, GFX card and new gadget. We told our users back year ago ... hold off till sanity re-emerges.

Oh and the profits oriented whiners .... try and understand that company officers are legally required to maximize profits. That's like complaining about a shark that "eats things". Go to fish market .... fish that are commomplace are cheap ... and they gotta sell them before they go bad. Fish that are out of season or just a low harvest week cost more. Don't like the cost for swordfish ? ... don't buy it .... when it sits on the shelves, the prices will drop. Everybody is trying to keep the doors open and in a pandemic thats harder. If you are sellng X number of cards a week, you can live with a Y % markup .... when ya sellong 20% of X to pay the bills, you need to charge 5 times as much. But when they stop selling, the doors close so taking a loss is better than closing the doors.

Since GFX cards became a thing, there have always been workstation cards and gaming cards .... same hardware different firmware and drivers. Making separate cards gamers and other commerical oriented users is the historical norm, not a new thing.
CAn we please stop with this line of BS? If what you wrote was actually true, based on nvidia's current profits, all of its company officers should be arrested for not maximizing profits the last few years. What was stoppign them from setting these prices before?

Company officers are legally required to act in the best interest of the company. People took that line and twisted it to "maximize profits". That's blatantly false, and peopleneed to stop toting it as justification for corporate greed.

Care to weigh in on AMD's prices then?

Don't forget that not all chips come out of the process "as intended", there are always defects. Some of these otherwise bad chips could get stuck on a mining card as well. You don't always need great core performance. As an example, the GTX1070 was better at certain algorithms than the 1080 because standard GDDR5 was better than GDDR5X in certain workloads, despite the 1080 having a stronger core.

rtx3060 at 600€ at launch
A card slower than 5700XT eh...

If NVIDIA leaks the code intentionally whose gonna buy their CMP line?
Yep.
Also the actual reason they bothered limiting crypto on GPU line.

You do know that Nvidia is a business. They dont care about gamers or miners, you or me, or even TPU, they are a business. They are in the business to make money.
There are different ways of doing business.
"At all cost, whatever brings me more money right now at this moment, spit on customers" is just one of those ways.

Automotive industry says hi. Back from 80s.

They are not spitting on any customers. They make a product for customers to buy and they buy it.
The only reason so many "gamers" are mad is because they are just mad and have to take that madness on something, mad angry gamers.

They are only crippling ethash mining performance. Other altcoins are mined properly andwith great profitability with the same limiter applied on 3060. So, another marketing BS from nVidia.
In theory should this not get them in trouble with the FTC for market manipulation? Since the nerf only one coinage.

Honestly don't know about that but their BS about caring for gamers is for ignorant kids only to believe.

I wonder how crippled? Even 50% is going to be 50-ish Mh/s, and a price/performance isnt going to make sense, but miners will still buy it I'd bet
Zero If virtcoin is mined or one of the many others.
It's Just a ploy to push old rejected Pascal parts on miner's.
And it won't work to any benefit for gamer's.

Hi,
Not sure how legal gimping performance is I'm sure the lawyers will find out lol

they're selling it as-is

people can buy it at X performance or not, it's not like they're advertising them as good for mining

I was wondering about this. Also does this kick off the great crypto war of 2021 where various crypto currency interests (for and against) now fight for control, influence, and resulting in complete disruption of GPU manufacturers?

so they roll out the 3080ti in a wheelchair... nice
I was really hoping for a 20GB card not a paltry 12GB. Only 2GB more what can this do? I am disgusted where all of this is going!

Yep.

Nah, no tin foil hattery here, at least not of that kind. They could have released ungimped gaming cards and still sold all the mining cards. Also, it's not like the CMP line would be worthless, even if all crypto died immediately and completely tomorrow. There's plenty of ways to use them for raw compute power that doesn't involve mining. And, if it's anything like the last time we saw mining cards, we may we display outputs tacked on anyway, so it wouldn't be impossible to use them for gaming. Just not ideal.

Things are pretty desperate at home. We need 2 cards for our 2 ready-to-go systems and at the moment we have fuckall.

What should I do, ya think? Pay 2500 Euros per over at eBay or wait for this new line from that greedy scumbag corporation called Nvidia?

I really have doubts I'd get them easy off of Amazon or something.

What'd you reckon, lads?

budget cards and wait. ask friends for reasonable prices.

Don't quite follow (English ain't my mother tongue).

We do have budget cards right now.

1050 ti & 1650.

Hi,
Does that mean nvidia is going also add a label on the box that says Not for mining if not they would likely get sued especially if other 30 series cards did not have driver gimped.
Press releases mean little to nothing about usage limitations any restrictions have to be clearly marked on the box.

3060 runs mining just fine. It's just not as fast as other different models. There are no other "RTX 3060" cards that were ever any faster at mining. nVidia is obviously treading forward quite carefully so far.
