As a follow-up to the late-June 2016 decision by NVIDIA to enter a settlement with owners of GeForce GTX 970 graphics cards over the 2015 class-action lawsuit over falsely advertised memory amount, a website ominously named gtx970settlement.com sprung up by the law firms representing the class. This website connects legitimate owners of the GeForce GTX 970 graphics card to the class, and enables them to claim the USD $30 in damages NVIDIA agreed to pay each member of the class. You have to be a resident of the United States to enter the class, because the court adjudicating the class-action lawsuit only has jurisdiction over the US.

Well i have two 970's that were bought in the USA, but somehow i think the original buyers more likely to get the money back than me :nutkick:

$30 and the law firm gets 30% of that

30 bucks is nothing, the important thing here is the message to never screw with customers.

considering the prices the current cards command, im guessing they are screwing us again by adding that 30 bucks and then some to those card's price tags, they still win.

No, the legal fees were a separate issue. Nvidia also agreed to pay the 1.3 million dollars for the legal fees as part of the settlement. Nothing will be withheld from the $30 to each customer for legal fees.

A pittance in compensation for us peasants. Not surprising.

That stupid thing is for US residents only. Everyone else over the world are screwed over already.

You are free to go sue NVIDIA in an Indian court.

This will only jack the price up of NV cards. Good work guys! hope that $30 goes to good use and don't spend it all at once!

As stated NV wins and the consumers will pay for this in the end anyways. you can wash out the cost by putting that $30 toward a inflated price of your next card or stop buying NV all together.

Most big corporations have a large slush fund meant for miscellaneous things like lawsuits.

This is planned for as part of doing business, with money regularly placed there.

That's great! then the price of NV cards will be coming down due to this? Yeah right.... the price has been going up up up with the release of each generation, so honestly we will never know, they will not raise the price of the current gen cards and the price of the next gen cards will likely be higher no matter what and regardless of this happening.

Cost of inflation

I was not disputing the rising cost of NVIDIA cards, LOL. We all know that is going to happen regardless. I was just pointing out that the lawsuit payout isn't the cause.

Sorry, but this was funny :)
30 bucks/claiming customers (many will not even bother for 30 $) doesn't send any message.
A fine of like 5% from the financial year income will send a message.

If you buy one new have they gone down by $ 30 or do you have to claim it back?

And those talking here saying most won't do this as $30 isn't worth their time...! 'Pshaw', every 970 purchaser who can get their mitts on a receipt is doing this... if they get this news. I'd love to see the number of requests for invoices from previous purchase happening today at Newegg!

AIB's are getting revenue for 970 left still sitting in the channel why shouldn't the customer get something?

They would never sell for lower price just because they can "afford" it. They charge whatever price buyers are willing to pay. Lawsuit or no lawsuit.

Isn't it missing 8 ROPs as well?

This ruling should apply to ALL gtx970 sales, globally.

Except U.S. Courts have no authority to order actions outside the U.S.

Only if you're willing to accept all US law as global law...

Buy a 970 now get a guaranteed $30 rebate basically.
