OFFICIAL Path of Exile (Discussion)

I recommend strongly saving your chisels for higher level maps. you'll want those for farming XP. I also don't recommend sextants until you're very comfortable with mapping

this is a decent beginner's guide to mapping, and explains the basics.
this is a good guide to "shaping" in 3.2, which involves "upgrading" one map from each tier to 5 levels above normal (ie all further Beach dropes become Shaped Beach, at T6), with some additional terms explained.

Grimro has several videos about POE, and specifically mapping (which are the only ones I've watched)

I recommend only making blue maps until you're comfortable killing everything T1-T5, and then maybe throwing in some of the yellows you've gotten to see how you do. Watch out for modifiers you're susceptible to, such as not going with a Phys reflect if you're a Phys damage main, etc...

I'll try to post more later :) at work heheh

So, there'll be no Beastiary in standard three weeks from now. Basically, they're saying "It's a lot of work that w'd rather put into other ideas for PoE", and I'm fine with that. It's a cute mechanic, and I'll definitely miss the menagerie... they put a lot of work in that area, and I like wandering thru to see the different critters, but it's a bit of a mess dealing with everything. I've died, I think, 5 times in the Flashback event, and 2 of those were due to IRL issues, leaving my toon "safe", coming back with mobs standing over me. The other three were due to trying to keep from killing the animal I wanted to capture, while keeping the swarm around me from killing me... Didn't work out heheh.
Anyway, I think it's the best call. I am enjoying the flashback tho, even if all I got from my 35-box was a boot effect :)

kind of sad. with beastary crafting you can get what you need a lot more easyer then to try rolling with orbs combination you need (sometimes getting flask with desired preffix/suffix combo could be quite expenceive)

trying to keep from killing the animal I wanted to capture, while keeping the swarm around me from killing me
you can make a bit tactical play with the nets but it will cost you few nets more to catch the beast.
red beasts with double skill summon adds on 75, 50 and 25% health but they do it only once. so after they summon last adds on 25 you throw the net on it and leave to enrage. this way it will regen some hp and give you more time to clear the zerg.
how you will manage to target it so you can use the net is another question thou
or you can try focus on adds and minimze damage on beast till most of adds are killed but with some builds this could be impossible.

I am now lvl 44 or so. And I have no idea what I am doing. I know how to make the items rare. But outside of that, I have little idea about combinations and what not. I have all these runes that I don't know the purpose of the conjoining them on the color (like the line between the sockets). I just cant put too much time into it.

The links posted by flmatter will help a lot. The game is pretty damn deep with a steep learning curve IMO. Playing through to maps with your character will teach you a lot on its own. Post up your in game name if you want and I'll friend you. If I'm on at the same time you are on I'm more than happy to explain some things to you.

Eh, I fell into that trap and lost a few years playing PoE. The game seems deep, but it's actually as simple as it gets: you either get good at trading or you don't see any end-game content.

sepheronx is my characters name.

Started a new character on normal since the Beastiary league is almost over.

I am getting the hang of it now so far (I think) and I think my gem setup is working too, not sure entirely though. But anyway, is Life Leech the same as Life Gain on hit? I play as dualist and noticed that is a trait.

I also put point toward that passive option for evasion merging with Armor. I think it was a good idea cause I concentrate on making my guy a tank. And a lot of good armor later on seems to have both armor and evasion.

Still lots to learn.

Life Leech actually has a cap, and it's a /per second sort of thing. Life gain on Hit is a straight forward "Bam!" and there's extra life.

LGoH doesn't work with spells ;)
For a non-caster you'd want both, but, like many things in this game, you probably can't afford both at the same time.

Played last night. White Noise from here added me. He had a dead woman on the ground in his hideout, but he was with me the whole time so she was dead before we got there.

Now I need him to carry me through Act 6 cause....well.... yeah.

@sepheronx
Having some PC issues at the moment. Need to reinstall windows today after work on a new SSD. Once I'm back up and running we can power through Act 6 and then some if needed.

Also i own a TeamSpeak3 server and you are welcome to join any time. I'll PM you the details. Not sure if you feel comfortable talking to people lol but it does make communicating much easier. Use it or don't. It's all good.

:wtf:

You can interpret this in so many ways and every single one is either horrifying or hilarious :D

interpretation doesn't fly in court. Trust me, I tried.

Who's running Incursion? I skipped Beastiary but Incursion looks fun. The hard part is deciding what build I want to run. Something new or something I already run...I think something new is in order.

Finally got my Onis this morning after about 45 minutes, took 3 hours and 50 minutes, and 3 hours, 46 minutes.... The reason there are two numbers, is after I dropped the first one, I logged to my second of three rushing toons, and dropped it again heheh. It actually dropped my DPS on the first toon; he had a Last Resort from a run last night, and with a Rusty Spike was about 50 dps above the sword. Still, hard to knock that 6L.

hey 2 oni in 4 mins and you call me sick you lucky cheater :)

you need specific build for for oni to work. you get huge dps bump when you have oni's uniq dot active but it also drains your hp so you need quite good sustain.
i follow lighting stricke oni build from EE with some tweeks to my taste here and there and it is quite fun.

How do you get this?

I started a new char for this incursion. So far, I haven't completed 1 of the going back in time in my deloreon to fight Vaal guys mission. Or says I did? I have no idea what I am doing.

I have a lot of fun in this game just doing what I want, trying to build my own setup, but those are never as efficient as the more accomplished players' setups. Still, I was thinking a simple Life Leech in the build should take care of any damage I take. I don't know, I'll check out some of the builds here and there. I may just see if I can sell one for a few bits and play with the other :) You should grab that one back out of the bank, and make some yourself :) . Looks like they go for around 2Ex in std, and 35-ish chaos in the new league :)

edit: I went looking quickly before I have to run out, and immediately came across a build with what I had crammed in mine to play for 30 sec this morn : Molten Strike :) I like that the Oni looks great for single-target DPS, but as a ranger at heart, I don't like the thought of having to deal with each mob individually. That 4 hours using Double Strike on each single stupid bloody target was driving me mad heheh. I like the idea of having solid "splash" damage to clear the areas a bit, plus solid single strike for the bosses :)

2nd edit: Here's the one I'm looking at, but I think I'll see what the fuss is with the new trap builds, and try trapping instead of totems. Once I get back in normal, I've got a second enlighten I'm trying to level, and maybe the Essence Worm for Anger or Ash... is Herald an Aura?... hmm....

The joke's on you then, because that thing drains your life even outside of combat. You need to counter that with fire resist and life regen, not life leech ;)

oni in the bank is for guildies. if someone want to try it feel free. just dont sell it. when you decide you had enough return it to bank so someone else may try it too.
if there is more interest i have one more in the bank. only in standard league thou.
i use above build. and dont change to single target for bosses. didnt have any problems with 3rd labirint or maps up to t8. havent played with it in higher maps yet
