@ andy 007 (bond in the house?) ;-) fact your 4850 is surpassing my oc 4870 should show that your cpu is fine for that card, hope that helps!
Thanks, i was suprised how easy it was to overclock more than 1ghz, i did try to overclock more but it just wont go over 3.25. Your CPU speed is really holding you back compared to mine, a CPU to consider would be the new E5200 when it comes out with a 12.5x multi and 45nm.

Wikipedia states July with a ?, so i guess they arent to sure, also they state a release price of $85. They do look good value for $, should be easy to get some good clocks out of them, 4ghz at 1.38V looks impressive , but some people have been saying that the retail verisons might not be able to clock as good, but i do know someone that sells ES CPU's for cheap here in New Zealand. I hopefully will be replacing my AMD with a E5200\P45.

Saw this thread and had to create an account and give it a try!

Two Gigabyte 4870s on show here!

Did not dethrone deagle for 4870 in crossfire, but close! If only my little Q6600 would do 4GHz on it's TR Ultima-90i xD. The cards are stock cooled :).

It is using the 8.6 4800 hotfix drivers, deagle did you use the 8.7 beta? Nice improvement from them if you did, your GPU score almost same as mine, and clock 60mhz lower! :)

using the 8.6 hotfix for the first run..

the score with catalyst 8.7 830/1100 and the Quad @ 4.1 GHZ is..

same settings

Nice scores, it's surprising how much GPU score goes up with increased CPU speed even at 4GHz+.

Nice clocks, is that with watercooling?

Thanks, I'm using an AC Accelero S1 and turbo fan module and 120mm fan blowing over that :)

For some reason I can run vantage at those clocks but only at 830 max with 3dmark 06 (crashes at firefly test otherwise). Great card though :toast:

its the memory (gddr5) which makes it crash, not the core speed... just a tip...
keep it up man...

Hate to break the bad news to ya, but this thread is for the new 4k series (4850 and 4870), the 3k series thread is still floating around somewhere.

Sorry i can't post any pics yet.

No earth shattering results here:

Running the 3Dmark06 1.1.0 (free demo) got me 10423 with my FX-62@ 3.0Ghz

Than i put my cpu at stock (back to 2.8) to run Company of Heroes 1.71 test @ 1680X1050 with DirectX10, all settings to high and Ultra with 2X AA. I got an average FPS of 51.8

I know that my cpu is holding back a good score in 3Dmark06 so you don't have to say it.

But the COH test was a clear indication that the 4870 card is working very nicely.

Got some new scores to add for myself, playing around with the E7200 and DDR3, Gigabyte MB that I don't like for now, should have an ASUS board next week, and a E8500+W/C to have more fun with.

Finally broke 8k. The hd4850 behaves very wierd at 800mhz+ clocks. SOmetimes increases actually result in lower scores suggesting that amdgpuclock tool isnt properly setting the clocks. Also increasing the memory clock helps the score a lot more than core clock increases at ~820mhz suggesting some kind of bandwidth bottleneck.

Something similar was discovered by someone on XS

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=3131525&postcount=495

.

Has anyone else found this to be the case?

running 8.6 hotfix drivers, getting about 2.5k higher score than my 8800gt would do. so far really liking this 4870, will definitely get another for xfire.

By rangerone7669 at 2008-07-12

i've always preferred ati, probably because my first non integrated card was a ati 9000, then a 9600pro turbo, to x800xl, then a x1950pro. when it was time to upgrade last time was when 8800gt's were released, got in on the first batch of g92's. now i'm finally back in the red camp lol.

Ater some more tweaking....

4870 CF @820/1100 no voltage modification and fan @ 70%

Great cards. If only there were a way to voltmod them without soldiering...
2 hours of Furmark @820 and fan @ 70% resulted in 61oC only so there is room still....
