PS3 crashing issues at Tokyo Game Show.

Well i dont think there is any thing to worry about the place was most likely very hot and if the ps3 was encased it would be extra hot

I can remember when people were saying consoles were better than computers because computers overheat!

Now consoles are suffering from the same problems are personal computers. I think i'll stick with my PC thanks!

yeah i remember that :)...in your face to all those ppl who said that :p

Its like a computer, but can only play games....why not get a computer with a ps3 to USB adapter? or an xbox360 to usb adapter :p...much beter :)

And what do these companies think? they are using all this mad technology and power, and using crap cooling...what the?

Get a prescott it's cheaper...

i got a prescott ;)

this getting sad i bet the ps3 doesnt even have half the "issues" that the xbox360 has you know why cause sony is at least trying to test the consoles for more than half an hour b4 the release them take that microsh!t honestly all our probs w/ console BS would be fixed if the ppl @ HP DELL hell sony also releazed home theatre pc are taking off and just making a dela w/ M$ and Sony to use their console games on the PC think how cool that would be watch HD DVDs blu-ray discs oh and play grand tourismo 5 on your comp. all for under $1K those would sell a hell of a lot better than a console

How about a Core 2 Duo? That seems more feasible for power to match a ps3...

as for ram...the ps3's 16mb or read bandwith can be beat by computers quite old. :ohwell:

game cube never had heating problems although the joypad sucked

Odd, my first gamecube overheated, so did a bunch of launch gamecubes.

im not bying a ps3 until it reaches a realistic price (about ÂŁ200) until then sony can kiss my arse while i have the squits.

for the record, if you think stock cooling is bad for pc stuff, if anyone ever opened up a console they would have a simaltaneous heart attack at the shite stuffed in them. when i had an xbox i happen to open it up one time, and you know what? they were running a moddified GF3 and a celeron on passive cooling...not so bad? wait till u hear this, the "passive" cooling was nothing more than a thin sheet of aluminium (tin-like) over the gpu and cpu. the ps2 isnt much better either...

LOL! Yeah, thats where they get you, they say they have this passive cooling and stuff, so everbody believes them. When you open it up to see what they really got, your warranty is out the window :p

Do this test. Take any console, p.c., or toaster oven of your choice and put it in an closed clear plexiglass case. Take it to your local convention center or gymnasium that has 1000 watt lighting and no A.C. and see how long it takes to fry an egg on the top of the case.

Indeed under the conditions not very many electronics would be happy, But I am going to stick with my Matx beast. :) who needs a console? (Everyone but me raises their hand...)

My hand stays down too! I'll invest in new CPU & GPU! Can that consoles outperform top GPU performance? In the next universe! My coffe is allways nice & warm on the case. Try that with those toys!

And there's yet another reason to be a PC gamer- You choose the parts, and how they're cooled :).

Ya, You build your rig for what you play/do, it makes for smoother performance all the way around, I mean even looking at the previews for "Saints row" For the 360 you can see when the fps drops to below 20, if you had build your rig you could make it run better if you had/wanted to.

yeah well u guys know how back then only manufactuers made computers?? then many years later they sold parts for anyone to build/cusstomize it themselves..

now. they sell game consoles..so i bet in tha future we will be able to build some custom game console.. that would be awsome.:D

we can build cutom game consoles now :D

All you gotta do is get a case that you like, put whatever computer components you like, add a USB hub, a couple of USB controllers, or USB adapters (so u can choose if you want an XBOX or Playstation or Ninetendo controller), add a monitor or two and your set :D...and all-in-one console :)

You're right. That's why I have a pc and an Xbox 360. Because computer gaming is very very expensive compared with console gaming. No matter which console.

Yeah but how many more things can you do with a computer as opposed to a console. Also, the actual games on consoles are more expensive than PC games and you can always upgrade your computer when it gets out of date, when a console gets out of date u gotta buy the whole thing again :p

Also, a computer can easily turn into all three consoles at once, just add the right controllers :D

I have never been a console person but they do have their advantages over personal computers and vice versa. The entire argument as to which is better is really a matter of opinion and it has been going on for decades!

But admittedly the gap between consoles and personal computers is becoming slimmer as these consoles now have internet connections for online games and browsing the net, DVD players with Dolby digital decoders.

Eventually in a couple of more decades I can see a merger of consoles and personal computers, and maybe even backward compatibility as far as games as they will have the same hardware qualities!

yeah i cant agree more, its all a matter of opinion ;)

Custom Consoles will never happen. (Yes, I realize I just made an absolute statement, if it does happen feel free to quote me on this.)

Edit: At least not on the same level as computers, you can always put a bigger hard drive in your x-box.

ok let me put it this way SONY GET YOUR HEAD OUTTA UR ASS and just release a damn pc w/ the software to play ps1,2,3 games wow that would work so well

I can't remember a console that didn't have overheating issues in the first gen release or in pre-release.

cough cough xbox 360 cough cough

cough cough xbox 360 cough cough

I am sorry to say Slater is right, the 360 had wide spread overheating issues on first release, there are not 360 watercooling kit just for the hell of it. (Well...there are but...) (Linky)

Although the issues were not on every 360, but to many of them.

Even MS recognized the overheating problems in the first batch of 360s released, they just anounced a plan to repair or substitute any Xbox360 bought before January 1, 2006, because of the overheating issues these first batch of 360 had:

It looks like Microsoft bit the bullet and has decided to repair 360s produced before January 1 2006, so if you've been staring at some red lights, this is the time to send your system in. If you've already paid for repairs, you have a refund coming your way. Microsoft is doing the right thing here, but this is somewhat of an admission that defect rates weren't exactly as low as they'd like us to believe. This is even more apparent after the Internet scare over Dead Rising killing systems. That's how mine died, and I'm far from alone in that regard.

Microsoft has said it will waive the cost of repairs on Xbox 360 consoles manufactured before 1st January 2006, and refund any fees already paid.

The company said that "standard and ongoing" analysis of its repair data had pointed to a large number of problems with a particular group of consoles that made up the initial manufacturing run.

"Returns for repair are coming in for a variety reasons and it's a higher rate than we are satisfied with," it said in a statement reported by The Mercury News.

"We've made the decision to comp repairs for consoles manufactured before January 1, 2006, and provide refunds to the small group of customers who have already paid for repairs."

Not bashing MS for actually admiting they had a problem with quality control, in fact, I admire how they are handling this issue, but anyway, the point is, almost every new gen hardware you buy just after being released is bound to have some kind of problem, that's why I ususally wait for a console to be availabe for at least a year before deciding to buy it.
