It should come as no surprise that Skyrim would be a popular game for the PC platform. However not many people would have ever guessed it would surpass Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in PC sales. On Thursday that became a fact as Jason Holtman, Director of Business Development at Valve Corporation confirmed to IndustryGamers in a candid interview. He is quoted as saying,

"Skyrim is the fastest selling title in Steam's history," said Jason Holtman, Director of Business Development at Valve Corporation. "Bethesda's commitment to and understanding of the PC as a gaming platform shows in the great review scores, spectacular launch, and continued high player numbers that Skyrim has received. We are delighted that Bethesda chose to use Steamworks to support Skyrim both at retail and digitally."

Considering the Call of Duty franchise has been a SteamWorks distributed game for the PC since Modern Warfare 2, it says a lot for Skyrim's popularity on the platform. As a matter of fact, one could say Call of Duty was on its way to being the best selling game ever on the PC......until it took an arrow to the knee.

So much for "PC gamers only download warez" and "PC platform doesn't sell well". I call all that total BS as Skyrim apparently clearly shows the exact opposite thing of the stuff companies claim. Eat this you greedy bastards.

Just because something sold well doesn't mean it wasn't pirated just as much.

Exactly! It sold awesome and probably was still pirated.

Thus solving the problem of piracy ONCE AND FOR ALL...

Well in all honesty piracy isn't the subject of this news post. I'm guilty too.

Skyrim outselling MW3 restores my faith in the basic intelligence of humanity.

Well no wonder. I remember going to the stats page, on the day Skyrim was released, and there was some ~180k people playing it, with a peak of ~230k that same day.

Also no one liked my picture?!?
It didn't show-up big enough, so I didn't notice it, at first, but I've seen it now. It's Funny. Well done. Is that an actual arrow from the game?

Steam doesn't have numbers from the pirates (pirate copies don't report to Steam). Imagine if the pirates were included. More than 1 million?

Don't forget those that own the game, but don't want to run it through steam. The razor hack bypassed steam.

OMG, I didn't expect MW3 to be toppled so quickly. And by a game which people generally think is more worthy, too.

Cheeky, very cheeky. ;) I like it.

No lollygagging qubit!

Heck I have been checking the Steam Stats at random over the last couple weeks and Skyrim is always and still is on top.

Im one of the few who have yet to play Skyrim. This kinda dashed my chances of it going on sale anytime soon.

picture is from MW2 airfield assault lol

Finally, people are giving money to who deserves it.

I'm more amazed about the fact that Skyrim outsold a multiplayer centre game.

I wonder if this story would have made news if Battlefield 3 would have been Steam only......or even on Steam to begin with. I sure hope Origin was worth the loss.

No way has MW3 even come close to outselling BF3 on the PC. The online record for MW3 on PC is about 78K players online. Right now there are 120K BF3 gamers online on PC platform.

...and BF3 will be still going strong long after MW4 has come and gone.

I have seen it running maxed out on a less than stellar PC and have got to say the game itself seemed f-ing brilliant.

Wasn't all too pleased with the interface though....a big put off for me infact.

I am very busy with BF3 and Pro Evo Socccer 2012 for the time being but will get around to Skyrim in due course once it has been patched up a bit and who knows...maybe the PC may even be given its own interface.

Yeah me to, and they did not have to sell it for $35 like on Origin. Lets face i bet it was the one of the reasons they did it to beat a record.

I bet shit more people would buy it if Skyrim could be had for $35.

For Skyrim to out do Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 when MW3 was available for $35 haha.

Makes my day..

Bought mine on 11/11/11 and have logged over 200 hours on it. Haven't done that many hours in that short a period of time since Oblivion five years ago. Yeah, PC gaming is dying.

Me too, only I've only managed ~ 135 hours so far.

But so little done, and so much to do!

I'm going to miss Xmas this year, because I'd be in Skyrim.

(Now imagine a mod which makes Skyrim houses all decorated for a real White Christmas unlike my rainy windy ones IRL, and there'd be a New Year's countdown, parties and everything...)

The question I have is...Is it buggy, and if so, do you anticipate Bethesda keeping up on the needed updates? I sort of suspect the answer to both of these is yeah. but I'm trolling for an actual answer.

One platform out of 3... 4 if you count the wii... THIS JUST IN COD outperforms skyrim on WII !!!!
