Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 is a great new sniping game. You fight on huge open world maps using various rifles and gadgets. The game uses Crytek's CryEngine in DirectX 11 mode. We test 23 graphics cards at the highest settings and three resolutions, with surprising results for AMD.

Thanks for this analysis. I'm on the fence about getting this one. Will wait until AMD releases updated drivers those 1080p numbers are bonkers.

@W1zzard
A small mistake on page 3,

"...open "GameUserSettings.ini" in "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Biomutant\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\"

I get some Delta Force 2 vibes sans voxels.

WOO lets go
500/1000 series still going strong 1080p

Can you believe this generic, janky, buggy mess of a franchise solid over 10 million copies!!!

People just don't have standerds :shadedshu:

Imagine a sniper game being Hidden inside biomutant files, that would be generous

Treat yourself with respect and buy Sniper Elite series instead, much better sniper Game than this jank

The game may be kinda shite in many aspects, but the fact they're using CryEngine, which is dated, get such great performance with graphics better than Battlefield, COD etc. is still amazing. I wonder when them AAA publishers will learn you just can't slap some effects on games and get "graphics". Just like Wizzy pointed out in the review, pop-up artifacts, shitty performance... You go City Interactive! :D

Loved this series! Glad to see some nice numbers at 4k for most cards

Did you disable AMD SAM on RDNA2 cards to see if 1080p fps improves ? might be bug from SAM.

I played through it and felt entertained

From what I understand SAM uses a whitelist, that enables it for supported games only?

but the fact they're using CryEngine
I needed to make my own modern 3D graphics game for our GPU heatsink test. Tried Unreal and CryEngine. Unreal won hands down in terms of how easy it was to learn, adapt, program for and to get results. If I were a professional in the gaming space I would probably pick my employer based on which engine they use.

What a weird game: in some places there are hi-res textures and rich geometry, in others - they are painful to look at. Looks like levels were designed by different teams/people.

Overall, the graphics is weird. It's superb in some places, and it looks like the game is straight from 2005 in others.

Anyways, dismemberment is a joy to carry out and look at. I loved the first contracts, will buy the second when there's a sale.

I remember I spent a few hours trying to find three enemies to kill with a single bullet. Eventually I succeeded.

I bought and played through the first game this past week. It's very fun and the graphics are very nice while running well. What let it down was the anti-aliasing looks very poor and the menu setting is too basic to choose from alternate methods or sample rates. Maybe this is a feature of the Cryengine? Also I kept getting stuck in map glitches that forced me to reload the last checkpoint to get out of. The map also allows you to get into areas that you can't get out of which again requires reloading of the checkpoint. Swimming in the water inside the train station was an example of where this happened. I wonder if this has been addressed at all in the second game? Also reloading the same save points in succession causes glitches quite often. Another strange thing about the game is that you are offered a lot of explosive gadgets but you can hardly ever use them. They trigger the alarm very easily which causes you to get overwhelmed by the enemy and you have to restart your checkpoint and try again with a more stealthy approach.

Wow, those nice 2D branches. :D

So you say this game looks better than BF 1 or V or the newer CODs? Hm... Am I missing something?

"For example, the RX 6800 XT matches RTX 3080, and the RTX 6900 XT closely trails the RTX 3090."
yo what the flip

It has nothing to do with RBAR, AMD's drivers for Windows 10 are simply broken with CryEngine games (very high overhead and poor MT). If you want this fixed, the only solution is to go back to Windows 7. Personally I have no idea what's the problem with Windows 10 drivers but AMD guys don't have a clue either cos otherwise they'd have fixed this long ago :p

it seems they can fix it only on game-by-game basis, Kingdom Come is ok now. i wonder if DXVK helps with others.

I'd say it seems more likely they only know (not can) how to fix it per game. It surely is fixable "globally" (especially since Windows 7 driver is ok with CE), they just have no idea how to do it...

It's currently 25% off at Steam for a very limited time, so I'm going for it because Argentine Steam prices are lowest in the world at around$7.70.
