Sticking with the x58, any overclocked chip on this setup will be plenty for a while to come as far as everything I do on it. Once X68 comes out we'll have a true comparison in the high-end sector plus I'm hoping for bulldozer to be good so at the end of 2011 I will decide whether to upgrade or skip since SB right now wouldn't do anything that my x58 can't handle.

X58 to P67 is a small step which is not really worth it.

I will wait for LGA-2011 at least, but my i7 950 probably will last until 22nm cpu starts coming out.

Running a crunching farm these i7 2600K are meant to produce the same amount at stock as a 3.8GHz i7 920. All this whilst consuming half the power almost. For me definitely worth changing to keep electricity costs down. Already started replacing parts:

Well i was going to but now my funds are going into a new car as mine decided to die a horrible death during this cold winter. (no i didnt crash it) timming belt froze slipped 3 teeth and knocked the timming out, which in turn bent a couple of valves. :(

The good news is my q6600 @ 3.6ghz and my new 5870's crossfired and new HD monitor plus new case makes up for all that :) it still kicks ass in any games, so all isnt lost.

Not worth it? I think people forget the whole selling the old to pay for the new thing. A 1366 to 1155 jump is the smallest jump you could make, but it's also the one that would have the least expense as 1366 is still pricey. Paying $100-150 isn't at all unreasonable. That's about what you'd expect to pay for a cpu upgrade on the same socket, only here you get an efi and lower power bill. Because of scaling resale value and performance increases, upgrading from any platform to 1155 makes the same amount of sense.

Quoted for the truth. Selling the old X58 and AMD X6 means I pay around ÂŁ100 to ÂŁ200 more for the upgrade (UK is more expensive). Not unreasonable at all.

As far as i have read, none of the "increases" justify the hassles that you will go through to upgrade. I don't think going from 60FPS to 70 or more will make anything different.

Beside, i'm running mine at stock. Why? Because there're no games out there that this beast can't handle, even at stock.

Getting some new SDD when it's cheaper probably worth it more than going from 1366 to 1155.

^ Agreed - Mine is much the same as yours...already getting over 200fps in BlackOp's. What more could I really ask for?

it doesn't make any sense when x68 is right around the corner and is desinged to be the x58 replacement. Not to mention the rumored performance of bulldozer should be enough to give pause.

if you're on x58 i say wait and see what x68 or bulldozer can do if you're on p55 SB might be a decent upgrade but even the i7 8XX series shouldn't be that much slower and no one here has any use for the built in gpu so it's best to wait for the bigger socket and see how it fares.

You completely missed the basic logic. I'll be going to 2011 when it comes out as well, at a very appropriate upgrade cost.

Basic logic has nothing to do with that lol. It is clear that you want to do that because of a want, not any specific need. It is just somewhat objectionable to try to convince others that their logic for not needing to do the same is somehow flawed.

well i do understand the want for an upgrade and yes all the benches I've seen show SB faster so there is a basis for it, i just don't see the change as significant enough and I think X68 will actually bring a more significant boost over x58.

I mean my kentsfield was performing just fine but I still wanted an upgrade it's just to me when my new cpu at stock beats my old one at a 40% overclock I find that to be a decent upgrade and SB just isn't that much faster than the i7 9XX

Think about depreciation. By the time X68 comes out, X58 parts are going to sell for quite low prices where as P67 should retain more of it's value. The combined upgrade cost of X58->P67->X68 should be cheaper than X58->X68. Plus you get to enjoy playing with new platforms more often. ;)

negligible if any you've got to remember the largest depreciation comes in the beginning the instant you remove the outer plastic from a package. This is because your next buyer has no warranty now and is buying a used item that may or may not work at 100%. Sell your stuff now at a loss and pay for an upgrade to p67, then sell again at a loss and pay for x68 you've gotten hit twice and likely will be worse off than if you had left it alone.

Well, this is where the gambling nature of each person decides. Either you believe:

- That two hits from more up-to-date hardware costs less than a single jump from (at that time) much older hardware

- Or you don't

I believe the first will be true. But only our pockets when X68 comes out will decide who makes right choice
