At CES, DIY liquid cooling expert Swiftech showed off its next-generation CPU cooling kit, the H220X. Although exhibited as fully assembled, the keyword here is "kit." The H220X is a kit containing all the parts that you put together yourself (the block, tubing, and the radiator); and not a pre-fitted cooler like the Asetek fare. A key characteristic of the H220X is its radiator, which fuses in a reservoir and pump, so that's two less components you need to plumb (and four less chances of a leak). What's more, the reservoir comes with a lit window for you to check coolant flow and levels, and a port for you to top up, or replace the coolant. Swiftech is applying this design for radiator+pump+reservoir units in three sizes - dual 120 mm (240 mm x 120 mm), single 140 mm (140 mm x 140 mm), and dual 140 mm (140 mm x 280 mm).

well looking at the photo they are still separate components that just piggybacks on the radiator, you still have to put them together, which means, leaks may still happen - less likely? maybe.

These are just made so they can sell under there name as the pump+cooling block with AIO gives them IP issues .

You still have min of two hoses anyway you work it .
 
Biggest advantage of H220x over previous iteration is standard G1/4 fittings. Eagerly waiting to see how this one performs.
 
I wish they'd make a 1x120mm version. It obviously wouldn't have much cooling capability by itself, but it would make a nice and tidy solution for cases like the silverstone ft02 or tj08-e that have funky fan sizes. Then you could add a 180/200/3x120mm radiator, etc.

The pump could but heat dissipation would not be satisfactory.
 
The line between AIO LCS and custom loops continues to blur, and we all benefit with higher performance and lower prices. My H100 is looking pretty dated right now, and it was top in it's class when I bought it 15 months ago. I'm guessing the H220X 280mm will sell for $140-150, and will drop load temps at least 8c compared to the H100 (or 4c compared to H100i or H110). If so, it will be close to custom loop performance with a lot less plumbing and hassle. Hope I can get one before the next round of lawsuits...

Back when they had their product removed from the US, I (and many others at the same time) said, "Hey, if you can't put the pump on the CPU block like those other guys due to patent crap, put it on the reservoir. Fast forward to today...

Pump is on the reservoir. I should have patented it. I could've made a KILLIN'! I'd have been set for life. Dagnabbit. Then I'd have patented the pump on the GPU block, pump on the memory block, pump on the Motherboard or Motherboard chipset, and then patented a pump on a pump.

You know. Just in case they tried to get clever. Because apparently any old idea can be patented and hey, why shouldn't I get a cut? Asetek can't be the only one gettin' the moolah!
 
Pretty sweet, wonder what this might cost. If it is under $200....I might get one for a future project, just to have it when that comes around. How long before these are pulled from our shelves?

Pump isn't directly attached to the cpu block so I don't think it will cause a patent issue this time ;)

Let's see some price and performance figures

In the meantime.... my H220 will stay right where it is :D

They should just go straight to custom liquid if they want to go custom liquid in the first place. I started out in custom and did not get any troubles (no leaks, no tread mismatch, no tube mismatch, etc)
