TechPowerUp today released version 0.4.2 of the GPU-Z graphics subsystem information and monitoring utility. This release comes quicker than its typically one-month development cycle, as it fixes some important issues. Version 0.4.2 resolves an issue with some NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards where GPU-Z may affect fan-speed control. It fixes a rare crash on MSI R5830 Twin Frozr II graphics card, and reverts to its old method of calculating graphics card memory bandwidth which caused some confusion among the enthusiast community. The ongoing Hardware Giveaway stays, giving you a chance to win some groovy ASUS Republic of Gamers series graphics cards and motherboards.

A complete list of changes (changelog) follows.
  • Fixed an issue on all NVIDIA cards that would sometimes cause them to lose fan control when GPU-Z is running. Please don't run pre-0.4.2 and 0.4.2 at the same time, this might result in incorrect readings in the 0.4.1 window.
  • Fixed system crash on MSI HD 5830 TwinFrozr II
  • Validation upload now uses Unicode for entered name
  • Reverted memory bandwidth calculation introduced in last version. It introduces too much confusion, we will go with what all companies use in their marketing material, even though we believe it is not correct. Using power of 10 again now, 1 GB/s = 1,000,000,000 Bytes per Second.

What does the "Invalide flags" error means ?

that a flag is invalid...

where do you see that error? got a screenshot?

On "Hardware Giveaway" tab.
First 3 times i get this error and 4th i get a "HttpSendReequestEx failed, error 12002" error.

Regarding the bandwidth measurement, instead of reverting to the old system, why not just show them both side by side and clearly marked GB & GiB with a clickable link to a short explanation?

Do we have to resend for the giveaway with this version?

Or maybe an OnMouseOver? Or ToolTip?

Any chance that other translated languages will be added soon? :)

yippee.gif a new version we're not worthy.gif

Using binary prefixes with bandwidths is not common because bandwidths rise from frequencies. And the calculation of the bandwidth in GPU-Z 0.40 was wrong both for a decimal and a binary interpretation.

That sounds good too. However, the user may not realise that he can mouse over for an explanation, which could lead to this question being asked unecessarily in the forum. Perhaps user both methods? It's not a big deal either way.

Are you saying that the number calculated was just plain wrong, as in a bug?

I have'nt heard the word "Groovy" in a while. Props. ;)

how about a fix for Mobility Radeon 4200?

It can not detect the GPU/Mem at all.

Im getting the invalid flags thing on my comp too. the 2nd time i pressed the button my comp locked up.....

Is VDDC the same as GPU Vcc (GPU Core Voltage)?

went back to using 3.9, getting an error and memory dump file on my desktop.
