TechPowerUp Releases ThrottleStop 9.7 Utility: Take Charge of Your Laptop's Performance

TechPowerUp today released latest version of ThrottleStop by Kevin Glynn. A nifty tool that gives you greater control over the power-management features of your processor, which should prove particularly useful for notebooks, letting you override several OEM power limitations to bring out the best in your hardware. Version 9.7 introduces several changes. To begin with, ThrottleStop adds per-profile adjustment of the turbo power limits, Speed Shift Min Max, and PROCHOT offset values. Core and cache V/F tuning have been added to the FIVR window for unlocked Core HX-segment processors (10th Gen or later). BD PROCHOT is now automatically locked when it is disabled. The DDR memory speed monitoring method has been improved. Windows 11 tray icons have been improved. Power plan selection fields have increased from 8 to 12. Safe Start feature can now be toggled on/off.

I hope the new V/F voltage frequency tuning features prove to be useful. This feature is only available on unlocked 10th Gen or newer HX or K series CPUs. My Asus Z490 desktop motherboard BIOS only allows access to the core values. ThrottleStop 9.7 gives separate access to both the core and the cache V/F Points. The unlocked 12th Gen and newer processors should have access to all 11 core V/F Points.

Being able to set different turbo power limits for each profile is a feature that I should have completed years ago. Procrastination is a terrible disease.

Intel's hot as the sun mobile processors need all the help they can get. I am patiently waiting for my 14900HX to arrive so I can begin tuning.

@unclewebb Is there an updated version available with an updated driver? Latest Beta I could find (v7.3) get's blocked by one of our Microsoft Defender Attack Surface Reduction Policies with "Block abuse of exploited vulnerable signed drivers". Pretty sad because ThrottleStop really helped keeping some of our Notebook models more quiet.
Might be an issue for enterprise users of MS Defender only because I think ASR rules are not a generally available or enabled setting.

ThrottleStop has been using the exact same driver since ThrottleStop 9.0 was released 5 years ago. Not a single exploit has ever been reported to me since switching to this new driver. If Microsoft Defender has declared that the ThrottleStop driver is vulnerable and decides to start blocking this driver, there is nothing I can do about that. Individual programmer vs Microsoft. Guess who wins?

Pretty sad

Yes it is. Extra safe laptops that run too hot because the default voltage is set sky high by Intel is the new norm. The fan noise and heat coming off my 14900HX laptop is ridiculous when ThrottleStop is not being used.

If you cannot turn off Microsoft Defender Attack Surface Reduction policies or find some way to make an exception for ThrottleStop, you will no longer be able to run ThrottleStop.

I hope the new V/F voltage frequency tuning features prove to be useful.

V/F tuning has proven to be very useful. It would be difficult or more likely impossible to get over 39K in Cinebench R23 without the helping hand of ThrottleStop.
