The Official Thermal Interface Material thread

I put a pro application of AS5 on my 5600X and 5800X3D today.. great stuff :)

They usually send condoms when the paste is dense.
Good sign as I like dense pastes.
I really liked the way it dispensed. Reminded me of the skinny syringe ShinEtsu pastes
Do report back on the performance and consistency/pump-out!
Consistency felt great, a good dense (but not dry) paste
This is alot for $5. Do some comparative testing and share the results!
Working from home today, I'll see if I can get a few comparisons in. I have a spare 8700 (non K) system with a very basic thermaltake cooler.

Has anybody tested Zalman ZM-STC9 Thermal Compound? Does anybody here has some experiences with that paste?

I'm using Cooler Master Mastergel and I'm quite satisfied. Both CPU and GPU work well.

Tried PTM7950 on a 12900KF and a 6900XT, not sure how it compares but worked super nicely on GPU

Seems to perform well. Nice!

I did another pro application today on my old FC140, and now running semi-passive with AS5
Hi,
Okay now that's ghetto, no fans

I'm running GD900 on most of my stuff atm, bought 120g so might as well put it to use. :p
The only thing it didn't work well with was my laptops i7 2760QM, used IC Diamond instead since it's much thicker, lowered from 90c to 80c.

I also have 120g of GD900; no regrets.

Tub or syringes? Tubs seem like they would go bad quicker or develop a crust if not used often.

Tubs and mine don't seem to age; I don't think GD900 dries out at all.

Yes I have. On a notebook it is a bad paste. STC8 from Zalman is much better because it's much more viscous.

Same for me, GD900 performs really bad on my laptop.

Compared to a really good one:

Separation may be an issue for some people, but my GD900 shows no such sign and is already a few years old.

But I would be using it on desktop, which has screws with springs for tightening. Those might be more powerful, then some smaller ones on notebook.

The power of AS5 compels you :D

No fans on the cooler

As it turns out GD900 isn't that great for Vega. On initial application temps are quite good @ ~50c core/65c hotspot, but after a few days the hotspot temps creep up to 80c+ when gaming.
I can only imagine this effect being much worse on an air cooled card.

Decided to try out some IC Diamond since I still had some left. It took a while but I eventually got it "spread" well enough, certainly not the nicest paste to use.
But the results are quite good, bringing down the hotspot to within 10c of the core. Still need to see how it does in the long term though.

Very important result, but strange given how much was left when you removed the heatsink.

How is IC Diamond holding? I got KOLD-01 recently for my FTW3 3080ti, and in the first week temps have gone up 2C. So, not sure how it will behave in next few weeks. Wondering if IC Diamond would be better.

Does IC diamond cause scratches?

IMO a lot of you are slowly accommodating shifts in non-premium staples towards top shelf branding reliant on marketing trickery.
Something unique that triggers one or more of the five senses along with a positive mental association.
What you are more and more buying into is 'cut' product that increasingly calls for replenishment.
