Toxicity in the forums

"I know company X will do this their next release, because they also did it 6 years ago" - is that an opinion?
More generic "I know company X will do Y because I believe that they will" - is that opinion?

Whether we're talking Nvidia, Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, Apple or whatever, they're all about a lot of talented people working their asses off. Sure, marketing will layer all sorts of crap on top of that and sure, C-level execs have to keep an eye out for profits, but that's how businesses (i.e. not charities) work.
Not sure I get you , or why that's replied to me, err.

Company X can get snotted, they have too much symmetry, company Y is a little better, I don't like too much symmetry, we ALL have bias see, we just need to realise, and work to mitigate it.

And some need to chill.

Wow, this is an excellent list of people to put on the ignore list. Now we have woke sjw techs on the forum even though a ton of users are from other countries. LOL. Go virtue signal on Reddit...this isn't Reddit, It's a tech site that's pretty diverse. The fact this has gone for 3 pages is a testament to the times. I mean you're literally upset because people have a different, and negative, opinion to your own over HARDWARE. Get over it and move along.

Name calling is not about a little bias.

Keep this up and you'll wake up with a black hood over your head, and when you remove it you're in the mod lounge with a rusty old banhammer to sharpen up

The main issue is that there is a certain personality type that when asked to play nice tends to do everything in their power to do the opposite, so we try and toe a line between allowing people to speak their minds, and we only have so much time in each day to spend on people having tantrums

There can also be more to situations than it may seem from the outside as mods may have already removed or deleted even worse content that you cant see, but overall the approach to wanting to keep the lower quality stuff where it belongs (AKA, not reviews and news posts) is the ideal
Oo oooo TEACHER ME MEM MEEMEM MEMEE
yea this thread can go pound sand take this PC(Politically corrupt) My feelings are hurt on the internet bullshit somewhere else thank you kindly

This thread is kind of ironic.

Things can be very toxic here, but it sure beats us all agreeing.

I like Intel, AMD, Nvidia.. I don’t play favourites..

It really is too bad people judge one another by the computer hardware they have chosen.

I believe it is in our blood, we feel our 'group' is superior to others.

It is part and parcel of being a social animal.

I've been holding my tongue, but I feel it is needed that something be said on the overall theme here.

As a retired moderator, I have seen it all, been through it all, in my decade of service to this site. Some want a harder line of moderation, some feel they are already too tough. The last time a thread like this came up, we spent months revising the guidelines, removing gray areas and the like, and many liked the changes, while many others thought we were becoming more of a police state.

Either way, the moderation cannot be omnipotent. This is why we have the report feature at TPU. You have to trust in the system, it is that simple. As mods, they have no dog in your fights, or whatever you all want to quantify them as. They look as impartially as possible, read what has traspired, and make a decision based off of those facts. If you do not get your way with the report, maybe it is you with the "issue" and not getting results should point you to lightening up a bit and not taking words on a page as a reason to upend your life. Also, keep in mind, 99.9% of the time, you will not see actions, and will never be PM'd by mods saying that they took action, if any was taken. Also withing that same thought, a lot of times, members get points for posting things, but that post may indeed stay live.

In the end, if simple words from someone you do not know gets you that upset, there is the ignore option, but it seems many just want to watch the world burn for the fun of it. The onus is on the members to help TPU become better, by doing whatever it takes to stay on the right side of the guidelines.

More like insecured people looking for ways to make themselves look superior to others by being toxic, seen way too many in RL.

Maybe when I grow a bit older I can start to emphatize with these kind of people, but not yet.

I didn't even read the ops post when ever I see threads like this it strike mes as WAAAA Mommy people are mean on the internet

and fair and impartial moderators are like Unicorn farts nobody knows what they smell like because they don't exist

power corrupts absolutely
edit: just skimmed the op and saw mostly just whining about Nvidia vs AMD bullshit
fuck right off we got better things todo here than entertain this non-sense of a thread

Most of my life has been around people a lot more clever than myself; it takes some getting used to.

And things are not always so simple

I like the Mac, I think the OS is superior; but they went and started gluing the hardware shut, so I jumped ship and now use a PC. I still think the Mac OS is superior, but I use a PC at home (a Mac at work) and am enjoying Windows 11. So is the Mac better, you bet; but the PC is also better.

I learned to be a troll years ago and it's taken years to stop that behavior (monkey see monkey do, you emulate what you're exposed to and there is a lot of hate online). I try not to troll here, I try to ignore hateful posts and haven't even noticed nvidia bashing tbh. I notice people tend to type in a way they wouldn't normally talk. sometimes it comes across as hateful because you're reading it maybe in a different way than it was intended.

I try to type as if it was ME talking, and I'm usually not a hateful person so I hope I come across as decent enough. If I come across as a jerk tell me, I am not offended by your observations of me.

this is just the internet, people take things to seriously

I may have bashed AMD in the past but in my defense the 5700xt experience was really bad. I guess if you bash from personal experience it's excusable. Now just pure hate for reasons it's a bit weird. Nvidia gets that alot, there was even a good example today of that.

I'm gonna say it, mods at TPU are as fair and impartial as it gets. Sorry to burst your bubble.

On the flip side, you are certainly posting exactly what this thread is about.

When a moderator tells me it is against the rules to criticize a moderator, I am left wondering.

Just saying; I really don't want this post deleted.

Disagreeing with a mods action in public to cause drama is already against the rules. Maybe like this? Maybe this is off topic? Maybe you are part of the problem?

Being impartial and fair is difficult, but like was mentioned before. Sometimes the one reporting an issue is the problem. A fragile situation involving often times fragile people.

The inference here:

and fair and impartial moderators are like Unicorn farts nobody knows what they smell like because they don't exist

power corrupts absolutely

is that TPU mods are corrupt. Which is fantastical BS. What we are is a very mixed bunch of different individuals who come to a consensus despite our own POV's. But, as I said, I no longer care what any one individual thinks of me, I know the other mods have the same stance--we're here to push TPU along, to stop it becoming a cesspit, and to try and highlight the awesomeness of tech.

power never likes criticism

I'd concur by saying you have to try real hard to get moderated on this forum.

The fact that people complain about nvidia and have to use terms like "ngreedia" and not for one second consider doing the exact same thing given the opportunity just means that they're a hypocrite and dont need their opinions considered anyway.

People do the same thing with Microsoft (M$). They are in the business of making money. They do what they need to do to make said money. They wouldnt be one of the top companies in the world if they didnt do what they do.

Again, if people were given a considerable amount of money to do something that goes against their belief (within reason ofc), they're going to do it. It's human nature.

An interesting point

My point of view is that the pot can accuse the kettle of being black.

I'm certainly guilty of losing my shit a fair few times. I have some mental stuff going on up top and have a bipolar partner to look after full time.
I tend to speak my mind and sometimes don't tend to note my opinions are sometimes a bit extreme and not the same as others.
Imo there is a bit too much confrontational ism on here sometimes. If someone posts something you don't like or agree with, do you really need to act like a jerk? No. Just move on or ignore the person rather than dumping fuel on the fire. And yes I know I am guilty of doing this.

I'd concur by saying you have to try real hard to get moderated on this forum.

Moderation styles vary, and I think thats a good thing. I think what is missed or, conveniently overlooked especially by the ones getting "moderated" is history, which is something I myself take into consideration.

When you have 20 past infractions for off topic for a handful of points and I have publicly warned you then smack you with a no post for 3 months the general reaction is

While I understand common sense isnt that common, I mean I can only give SO MUCH leeway before you are ACTUALLY just being a nuisance. Other members may see these things as "abrupt" at times. Usually around the time threads like this crop up.

There are numerous tools available that we use to come to actionable solutions. Sometimes it makes sense to the observer, sometimes it wont.

You can't really excuse everything companies do with "they need money". Everybody needs money, very few are lying, cheating, etc... to make said money.
