my suggestion was simply to block chinese IP's, at least temporarily. wait til the attacks stop, then allow them back in again.

serious chinese users who want to use TPU can always use a proxy, i dont beleive we'd have too many users here from there anyway, being an english forum (then again, w1zz would have the actual details on that)

but according to wizard & 'Whois' - TPU is based in Hong Kong.... therefore - its Chinese based server which has been overrun buy 'English' speaking foreigners....

but wizard did also say something about servers being in Texas....

TPU is based in hong kong, but has download servers scattered around the world.

Im sure, there are quite a few chinese people lurking around tpu with the exception of me & Kurosagi who are based elsewhere other then Hong Kong. but they dont say much - you know them kinda people.... Ive seen people who have been here since 2005/2006 but only had 50posts.

but over in Hong Kong there are plenty of things to do & the great thing about that place is EVERYTHING aint as over priced as Europe. so going out with your friends to the arcades & playing Dance Dance Revolution for 6 hours, Time crisis 3 for another 3 hours & tekken for another 4hours is actually quite a regular occurance. so most of them have a life outside the internets. - its a totally different way of life there compared to the UK!!

I remember the golden years when arcades use to be like 20p ago & time crisis & similar FPS games were like 50p ago - now its £1 or 1.50 for a go.

But yeah that was a pretty nasty attack just, TPU was down for an unusual amount of time (still short but a long time as TPU downtimes go).

They can DDoS over proxy too? TPU won't be blocked for any country. Especially not PRC. It's inconceivable, even if it's the only solution left.

yea that wouldnt be worth it for them. they are most likely doing it from a network of hacked boxes. i wonder if w1zard has run any traces on the location of these attacks. atleast maybe get in touch with the ISPs.

The proxy would likely crash before they could get enough traffic to get the ddos on tpu

yes .. some of our urls are getting hit repeatedly by the same ip in a short interval .. one connection every few seconds per ip/url for the whole day (or until that machine is shut off, it's client pcs) until we ban the ip. and that happens from several hundred ips
