@phill can I ask what you pay per KWh over there mines $0.2589 per KWh
It would shock you silly I think... I think with the cap at the moment its about 35p/kWh... Without I think its not far off 70p/kWh... (Apologies 64p/kWh according to the bill - EDIT that's without 5% VAT on top, so its actually nearer to 68p/kW... So around $0.85/kW) - So that's roughly - $0.42 or without cap $0.80....

1682152970410.png

This is direct from my bill -

1682153104091.png

But I do need to get in touch with them since I notice the standing charges are different from what the bill says to what the price says I'm charged... I've got another bill due I think through soon, I'll double check then...

Basically, crazy money for gas and electric. Thank god for my solar panels! :) Its the only way I can put on a few machines during the day without being charge £500 a month just for electric. I mean if I was to run my Threadripper crunching and folding, I think that can peak about the 800 to 850w power draw from the wall (its not overclocked!!) that would cost me a day roughly....

800w x 24 = 19,200 w = 19.2kW x 0.64p = £12.28 a day just for that rig.... I'm trying to currently run about 6 or so rigs when the sun is out and good.. I'd hate to think of the total costs lol! :)

Holy crap your 96 quid power bill is $190 nzd that's like 80 bucks more than I pay I'd be tempted to run a gas powered generator to make use of the cheaper gas KWh charges along with the solar

power costs 2023-04-24 115546.png

but our power is predominantly produced via hydro and not gas from overseas

It sure does suck to be honest.. I know they are putting up more wind, solar and some nuclear plants about the country but that all takes time and money and it seems from all I hear is that we have no money so to speak and sadly nuclear plants can't be built in 2 months, so yeah, I think it's going to be a little while before we see cheap electric again.. I think its mean to be going up from June this year... I guess we'll find out in a few weeks.... :)

yeah this is why my fiance left her house rental and moved in with a friend, she works remote so is flexible in that regard.

sadly, that means there is nowhere for me to stay to visit her this year. considering airbnb still as I miss it there and her immensely... but that is pricey and will dig into my savings hard.

Hey TPU folders, I don't usually announce our EHW monthly competitions here, but there's a pretty good prize up for grabs for the July Foldathon later this month. It's random draw (5 WU minimum required for entry). Everyone, including myself, been slacking off folding since the heat wave driving up our AC bills, so we sweetened the prize pool a bit for this one. I'm sure one or two of you will be interested.

Hi everyone, I'm a new member of your team, and I wanted to give you a friendly tip, if you don't already know it, you can use the FOLDING.LAR.SYSTEM's web client as it has some interesting options. For example, you can manually choose what kind of research to contribute to as there is quite a difference between the credit given to the WUs. I have set my 2070S to process cancer research, as they are better credited.
For those looking for better deals on hardware, some miner GPUs can be repurposed for folding but not all work how you'd expect, for example the CMP 50HX has abysmal F@h performance under Windows, under 400k ppd, I will try Linux, but I heard that the P102/104/106 cards are easier to use under windows.
In the FAH hardware deals subforum I linked an eBay seller that sells P102-100 cards, equivalent to GTX1080Ti but with half the ram for 60 USD or Best Offer. I offered them 55 USD and they accepted my offer so the card is on the way now.

Welcome to the team, have you used that application for long, I apologize but I am overly suspicious, but it does look really good both as a management app and as a web database to encourage participation, can you tell us anything else you know about it please.

I have been using it for quite some time, since last year, didn't seem anything suspicious. For the manual assigning research type of WUs, I guess is a good idea to look in the database and see how different cards are faring. For example, as my 2070S is very well suited for cancer research GTX1080Ti/Titan X Pascal gets some of the lowest credit on these units. However they get the best credit on Alzheimer's research, so its up to you to research a bit in the database and see whatever works for your hardware.

I was very disappointed today to find out that my Dell Precision T5810 workstation ( X99 ) doesn't boot with two GPUs in the system. I have a 2070 as daily driver and wanted to add the CMP50HX mining card but no joy. Replaced the CMP with a GTX 1050, same issue. Bah, looks like I need to build myself a new system. I would love one with at least 3 double wide GPU slots, but we'll see.

BTW, in Quebec electricity tariff is 7c/kWh.

you might not have enough lanes with storage and gpus together. that system wont work. unless you bifurcate the lanes

I don't think x99 has pice bifurcation. I have a SATA drive as os drive and no pice devices like nvme SSD. Intel ark shows the CPU as having 40 pice lanes. But I think is just the Dell bios that is not tuned for that.

The cool thing is you can reuse quite a bit. Single socket x99 boards are a plenty on the used market.

Yeah but this one uses ddr4 ECC, and another Dell Mobo wouldn't help me as it would have the same issue. The only salvageable thing would be the CPU but a 2667 V3 is like 30 cad with shipping included from US. Case is proprietary and so is the PSU. So, not much you can reuse. Most x99 consumer boards on the market do not support ECC.
