TPU's F@H Team

thermal dividers. i have that in 2 parts of the house.

Dear god how do you guys deal with the heat? Have my heat vent blocked, my window open and it's around 0c outside. I stopped the rx570 from folding, now
just my 2699 going at it. It's heating up my room to almost uncomfortable levels. Wow. Just one cpu. I might still at some point try 2 cards and 1 cpu at least....
That's very surprising. There's no way an RX 570 or your Xeon can pump out enough heat to overcome the cold coming in from outdoors, especially at this time of the year. Maybe your house's heating is turned up too high.

Just one thing, we usually recommended using the GPU for Folding at home and the CPU for World Community Grid. FaH I believe has a tendency to push the CPU to the max. Meanwhile WCG can be configured to use a certain percent of CPU time and a certain percent of processor cores.

It's time. It's time to change the F@H badge numbers. It's quite ludicrous that I'm a "Crazy Folder" with my 3 GB GTX1060 and GTX 1650 ...wait for it... Super pumping out ~1.4 million PPD.

I spent a bit of time mulling this over and I propose that we base craziness at the expected output of the top GPU of 2 generations ago running 24/7. So that means that we currenty base "crazy Folder" off of the PPD of the RTX 2080 Ti. (I don't have any idea of the PPD output of the AMD GPU's) We could be brutal and base it off of the fastest GPU period, which would currently put craziness at 10 million PPD or so. Or maybe in the other direction with the RTX 2070? I think we should ignore halo GPU's like the Titans.

Thoughts? Need input!

What are the criteria now? More dynamic options than a specific baseline might be the top X or X% on the team.

Total points! Sustained, IE and still going.

What is criteria now? I don't know if I ever got crazy badge...

What are the criteria now?
It's fashioned after EOC's rating, but with fewer layers:

Updated to 1 million, feel free to have a discussion about the value, I can adjust it easily

Edit: And we never did anything else about it, and that was ~3 years ago.

Grrr. Edit 2: Does anyone recall what the different levels were and how many there are? Badge plus 4 stars plus Crazy Folder=6 levels?????

I dont recall any stars, that's for crunchers. We have n Millions as levels.

I think 50 million is top

yeah am north of 600 million

@W1zzard , can you help us out here? Could you remind us what the different levels are for the Folding badge?

The last time this was addressed was Mar 26, 2020

Look at what I found:

A little badge history from my limited search:
It appears that @Steevo was the first to suggest a badge on January 11, 2008

@Solaris17 @El Fiendo, and @EnergyFX were key players

@Solaris17 explained the code this way:
-You will get a badge once you have gotten 100,000 points.
-The badge will disappear when your 24 hour average hits "0" points. this will happen automatically. To keep your badge your 24avg must be more than 0

-For anyone with between 100,000 and 999,999 points your badge will read "folding for TPU"

-For anyone with 1 million points..but under 2 million (1,000,000-1,999,999) your badge will read "1 million points folded for TPU" This will continue in 1 million point intervals upto 5 million points.

-After 5 million the next step is 10 million points..which means your badge will read "5 million points folded for TPU" (5,000,000-9,999,999)

-The next change will happen at 10 million points. when you hit 10,000,000 your badge will read "10 million points folded for TPU"

-After 10 million the next changes happen at 25 and 50 million.

-Their is also another category which you can only get if you produce 25k+ ppd . This badge over rides all others...it doesnt matter if you have just over 100,000 points or if you have 40 million points. if you do over 25,000 points per day this is the badge you will get and it reads "More than 25k ppd"
I see crazy folder mentioned, but I don't see it in either of the code posts???? Looks like the 25k+ ppd badge was changed to Crazy Folder at some point.

So, now I think we have a starting point, and there's really only one question. How high should we put Crazy Folder?

At least a billion points, then 10 million ppd.

Oh, we sold our hot tub, so I have surplus electricity. Gonna get some rigs going again.

"I see crazy folder mentioned, but I don't see it in either of the code posts???? Looks like the 25k+ ppd badge was changed to Crazy Folder at some point."

Please notice that after the 25K+ there is a comma, then "More than 1 million PPD". I interpret that you have fold at least 1 million PPD to be a Crazy Folder. Looking at today's results there are 13 of us that do more that 1 million PPD, but only 8 are over 1 Billion total points and NO ONE is over 10 Billion total. Only 14 of us have done over 1 Billion total. I think that 1 million PPD with 1 billion total is a good line to draw.

I wish we could change the whole thing to PPD, but I don't think we have the people to do it with.

I agree despite the few but with a twist, focus a much more tiered approach to try and entice the effort or up it.

If you made it catchy it could pull the odd person in, best I got off the top of my head is Fast on purpose, or. PPD predator err hopefully others can do better:).
These Are badges Anyone can get quickly anyway, why not also gimmick it to make people want the badge.

It's going to be hard to entice new people these days. It's much more expensive to Fold than to Crunch. Plus Crunching is more "polite'. You just set it and forget it. It never interrupts anything I do from just surfing, to streaming, to gaming.

In the old days there used to be a notice on the front page of TPU whenever we participated in a contest. People joined and sometimes one or two stayed around for awhile. I feel that would be a good place to begin. Plus the old guides for folding setup and use need to updated or deleted and entirely re-written.

Maybe try taking a base line for a particular GPU... I think a RTX 3070 can do 4 million points roughly in a day, but not everyone has one.. I think everyone trying there best should have a badge, I think for people hitting over 10 million a day deserve a particular badge (Crazy Crunchers R US! or something) but something like, 0.5m, 1m, 2m, 3m, 4m, 5m and then 10m maybe?

I can see some scores hitting less than 50,000 some days and I do wonder if people are using the GPUs at all, they could just be on a CPU which is amazing to show a contribution but I think to some degree, that more weight should be put on people with lower end stuff, trying to make a difference than one guy with 3 4090's for example..
I think a RX 480 I tried some time ago, scored terrible but that's not a bad card for gaming on.. I mean a GTX 1070 I think might get near to 1m a day and a 1080 TI is about 2m...

I agree @NastyHabits , crunching is easier than folding... Neither do any of us really get any massive support of thanks from the communities we are trying to help and it is all done off of our own back, which is another massive reason as I why I say to each and everyone member, I don't expect a set score from any of you or else your out. If you only managed one work unit a day from folding and then maybe 4 hours CPU time for crunching, its still an extra work unit and an extra 4 hours CPU time that this team has to its scores every day. If that's all someone could manage, then I am more grateful for that than anything. Anyone producing big scores such as @XZero450 @Jstn7477 @newtekie1 @80-watt Hamster @Norton @TheoneandonlyMrK @ThePutzer @jellyrole and many more (apologies if I've missed your name, its been a long day! lol) does with my utmost respect and admiration because of what they can do. As soon as the sun comes out more, I'll put all I can on to help push my scores up more.. I know they have been low but with prices as they are for everyone concerned, its not a cheap hobby to do just from an electric side of things, the hardware costs can be very much as well.

Apologies guys for missing out on the thread (I'll try and go hide more now.....) :)

I can't believe we are this unlucky....

I believe where the FAH Points are currently working from, the site has gone down... Here's hoping, we'll be able to get some results soon!! :(

So Extreme HW is having a 4 day folding challenge starting on 3/17 (0:00 UTC)

See thread here for more info (they are offering some prizes for participating- check their site for the details):

I personally will pass on any prizes but plan to join in using at least my RTX 3070 under the TPU_remembers-Kreij account. PM me for the key if anyone wants to use the account and fold for Extreme HW in the name of our dearly missed friend.

I'll hopefully be able to get a machine going for a little while each day, I'll do my best to get at least 2 work units out of it :)

@Norton I think rather than make a new account etc, I'd be honoured to use the TPU_remembers-Kreij account if that is alright with you :)

I'm going to start folding again soon

How do I get the badge on my profile signature when I do? I know about the team name.
