hello, i have some money to invest into my computer, i dont know what should i do for the best price/quality, my current specs are in my signature

im thinking about one more gb of ram or a new processor, any ideas?

and about the new AMD socket, M2, will it run DDR2-533?

and if i get one more gb of ram, should i get a single 1GB or 2x512 (for future upgrades)

thanks, vexen

What is the primary needs for your pc? If its multi tasking a dual core AMD64 I'd suggest.

M2 isn't out for a good five-six months. Not sure if DDR2-533 will run it.

but i would have to change the whole mobo, ram, and cpu, i was thinking about a less expansive upgrade!

Your system looks quite nice to me. Maybe if anything, a new PSU. What is your systems main use?

gaming - multitask - photoshop

i was thinking to upgrade cause i couldnt handle quake 4 (doom 3 engine)

Well video shouldn't be a problem were you got 16pp. Your CPU should be fine, its not the greatest, but its not like it shouldn't be able to run it. More ram will help, ram always helps. What settings are you trying to run it on?

-Dan

get a better PSU and oc that mofo :pimp:

I agree. You're video card and processor are decent. You probably shouldn't be running all that on a 300 watt PSU. I would go for the extra gig of RAM and the PSU like Djbbenn suggested. Or one or the other.

ive heard that the prescott's runs too hot and are hard to oc, ive tried a bit from 3150 to 3300 and it runned very hot

dan, i run the game at low settings, and i change the resolution from 640x480 to 800x600
i disable bumpmaps and special effects, and i still drop to 30-40 in firefights (seems very laggy to me, i cant frag!)

thanks for the fast and nombrous replies guys :) by the way i have another problem, its in another topic, but there wasnt much replies, please check my topic "card drawing black screen" thanks again, vexen

I have a presscott, I don't have any trouble overclocking it 600mhz. You just have to keep them cool enough. If you want to overclock all of your stuff though you are going to need something more than 300watts, at least over 400watts 450-500 would be great.

Hmm 30-40 is not good for what your running at those settings. There is something else thats wrong I think. Try messing with the in-game settings a bit. Seems odd to get that poor of performance from what you have.

i will need to try again later, for now i have no image drawing up, im in safe mod, plz check my topic "card drawing black screen"

Vexen, I had the very same CPU as you but you have a better mobo and DDR2 RAM, my gfx card at that time was a X800Pro flashed to XT. I could run Doom 3 with a lot of options on with no lag at all. What are you getting in 3dmark03 or whatever? And you need to change the PSU...:)

i didnt try 3dmark03 yet but im getting 4950 from 3dmark05
