I don't know about DLAA but I'm pretty sure all the rest of the AA approaches are just Blur Filters. It blurs out the jaggies so you don't notice them as much but it also blurs the textures to a degree.

I believe you two are referring to Morphological Anti-Aliasing (AKA MLAA/SMAA) and its related-descendants.

Many 'methods' of Anti-Aliasing (such as MultiSample Anti-Aliasing: MSAA) have depreciated in use due to incompatibility w/ deferred rendering (and some post-processes). Which, have become common-use since 2007-2011->

So, @64K isn't entirely wrong in his very broad statement. Most AA methods available today are 'some kinda blur filter' or use proprietary technologies.
Hence, the menagerie of ATi/AMD- and nVidia-branded 'xx(x)AA' options, through the years. Some are descendants of MLAA, others are algorithmic or AI/MI post-processing (of a 'lesser degree' or more 'for-purpose' than FSR and DLSS.)

The issue isn't really RT, or any other detail, it's the same issue that's resulted in many of the recent AAA games being trash code pushed out the door.

These publishers are bought and become corporate mentality hellholes, where the objective is to finish projects as quickly and cheaply as possible so they can move on to the next profitable venture.

There is only one solution to this. Never preorder, and don't pay any amount of money, and yes, that includes discounted versions a year later, to support this attitude.

Reward games that are a labour of love, and don't support anything else - this is how you shape the industry.

, Cyberpunk being the obvious one, you'll need a $1.5k GPU to turn everything on, but it's the best example. Other games involve RT at a much lower level, but examples such as Dying Light 2, even Elden ring pushed an RT update with a recent patch that makes buildings and dungeons look a lot better.

And yes, you need to send the publishers a memo this is not ok, by not buying.

I have had far more fun with non AAA games. I guess over inflated budgets make games AAA or not but anyway, I have been playing Darkest Dungeon far more than most Triple A titles for crying out loud.

Really the game is a fail-turd. Yet another game pushed out by a Publisher before it was ready who counted on The Lord of the Rings fans to make it a success anyway.

People give TLOU, Hogwarts, Jedi survivor crap for not running the best but all three look miles better than this.

To me it seemed the opposite, yeah people were giving those games crap but they were drowned out by neverending praise to the point where any negative criticism drew condemnation in certain spheres. Hogwarts, was on side shooting themselves in the foot, forcing a mediocre game that would have otherwise come and gone unnoticed into the spotlight.

Game design, graphics, story, playability, the game devs dropping the ball HARD, the publisher dropping the ball HARD, ditto for marketing. Everybody involved with this project must have had some GOOD stuff, and I want some.

Those games all had soem major poasitive attribute that could outweigh the negative performance. Hogwarts was a genuinely fun romp throught he world of magic, not weighed down by the harry/voldemort story that we've already heard before. Jedi Survivor has and engaging story and characters, and feels like the developers actually appreciate the universe they were given, a major breath of fresh air in a world of stale characters and fan hatred. And TLOU has twitter wrapped around its finger I guess.

This game has nothing. The LOTR fanbase is in the middle of their Last Jedi moment where they are coming to terms with the IP owners hating the fans, the source material, and themselves. The game itself is not vile. It's not notable at all. Its a snoozefest that cant decide what it wants to be, its something nobody wanted, and it is barely playable. A truly fascinating artifact of gaming, up there with Big Rigs.

Gaming went mainstream and Investors don't like to risk more than necessary. So back in the earlier days to get a gamer to open their wallet, a certain standard had to be met. Now the audience base is far more reaching, even the barest of effort brings significant amounts of money, and putting effort to please the relative few is now a money losing proposition in their eyes.

Yep, we all know that's going to take the cake... Creation Engine v857105.91210 overloaded with crippling graphics effects we already had in DX9.

At least we won't have sub 30 FPS in the city center due to draw call issues, because there are no cities!
