I thought I read somewhere Intel was doing fee based software unlocking of server CPU features.
Imagine if AMD had you pay extra $$ to unlock cores, ECC, 3d cache, or for higher frequency. CPU's with microtransactions - ugh.
Those new 4th gen Scalable Xeons should be these which require paying if you later want something feature you need. That is not what I wanted. What Intel's doing is just robbery.

I wanted those "broken parts" which are just sold as cheaper models. Example because they are not stable with all cores with clocks needed. But these days everything is just laser cut away. I know that these are not for everyone, but I would buy just for tweaking heck out of it.

There is reason why I look odd products from china like those Erying motherboards with mobile Intel processors or those Geforce pci-e cards with mobile chips in them. Too bad Nvidia can easily stop those mobile chip cards with their driver updates.

My parents had once a AMD powered desktop with IIRC a AMD Sempron 3400+. (I would say 3.4Ghz? Ha 2.0Ghz...)

It was a packardbell desktop set, harddisk died after not so long, then the monitor died.
My parents got rid of it and they got my intel E7200 build, my dad is still using it , lateron they got my LG 1080p monitor as well.

AMD Athlon X2 4200+ but i pushed it to 3 GHz and caught my MSI motherboard on fire. shut the system down cleared the CMOS and continued to use that system for years after the fact. lol
and that fire put you on the road to reviewing CPU coolers so that future builders won't have to burn down their PCs in order to OC their CPUs?

A Socket 754 Newcastle core Athlon 64 3000+. It was faster at 2 GHz than the Pemtium 4 at 3 GHz. Good old times!

Those Opterons were cheaper in Germany than Athlon 64 x2 in Finland, if I remember correctly. Even with DHL delivery(30€) it was still cheaper.
Buying from DE is still worth it sometimes, especially AMD laptops. The price difference is insane for some non-gaming models.

It wasn't a temp issue it was a shitty MSI mobo issue lol.

I was using a Thermaltake Big Typhoon air cooler with a Delta 120mm super spinner ear splitter finger biter. During that short time that I was testing for stability with the OC I had one of the fastest Athlon 64 X2 4200+ CPUs in the world. Chip would boot at 3.3 GHz but that was where temperatures became a massive problem. I backed it down to 3 GHz which was fine temp wise but the mobo VRM couldn't handle it and finally with a very loud POP burst into flames. I was surprised everything still worked afterwards. I just left it at stock. ran it that way for a couple years no problem. After which I sold it and it still runs today in a classy custom painted Metallica Ride The Lightning case (black with candy apple red metallic and silver metallic paint scheme. Thats when I updated to a Phenom 940 BE

Problem is most of the German sellers won't send products to Finland as they would have deal with 25% Vat. I wish we could have universal Vat in whole EU area.

I do know that my country's finances is not all right, we have to cut from something useful or raise taxes again(and again). I don't know how many company's in Finland are not paying taxes because of their Dutch sandwitch or something similar tax evade. In my opinion every company should pay their taxes in country's they operate. No Irish or Dutch, bullshit tax avoiding things should be possible.

My very first AMD CPU was a Slot A that was quickly replaced by a 950MHz Thunderbird when they first came out. I still have an Asus A7V I bought new back in those days.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. AFAIK, consumers within EU pay tax in the country they're purchasing the goods, not where they live, when under €35000.

I've bought from germany, france, and UK (before), and never had any issues with it.

Here's one that sells to finland: https://www.computeruniverse.net/de/page/versand1 Then there are of course those who refuse to sell outside of DE.

My first CPU was AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton , and only on Zen+ I am back to AMD,current is Zen3

I'm not exactly sure since I've used to share the same PC with my bro till I've graduated in high school but I think we also had a 2500+ Barton if I remember right. 'I barely knew anything about tech stuff back then'

In my first own PC in 2008 I had a Athlon 64 x2 6400+ in a MSI K9A Platinum mobo.

I still have a 400fsb Barton 3200+ in a fully functional PC. My sister has the twin to it with a 2500+ sitting in a closet. I built both at the same time. She said I can have it if I come pick it up and that's a 2,000 mile round trip.

I have that same CPU still in an Asus mobo. It made a great space heater back in the day.

That was my first AMD CPU! Multiplier set on the substrate.

We used the pencil trick to unlock those. The only CPU I've ever actually blown up (the die shattered) was a victim of that.

I used to run it at stock settings with the cooler it came with, luckily my case at the time had a cut out on the plexi side with a fan in it and it was blowing air ~at the CPU cooler so it was okay. 'I think?'
My MSI 8800 GT wasn't a hot head either, not sure what kind of temps I had but I ran that system for years until my GPU kicked the bucket and I've also upgraded to a Phenom II X4 840 after. 'kept the 6400+ cooler on the Phenom too, the old cooler had copper heat pipes while the Phenom cooler was a joke of a cooler like nothing but aluminum fin stack with a small fan on it '

I dunno about the 840's box cooler, but the 965BE's had a copper base, heatpipes and shit. Only issue was the small (65mm I think?) fan. IT WAS A F****** JET ENGINE.

This was time when you could just order computer parts from Germany and pay their lower VAT(was then 19%) instead of Finland's(23%, now 25%).
Same here, got my Athlon64 3500+ core Venice vith an Asus A8V Deluxe (later replaced with an Opteron 185).

I don't remember the model but it was a socket 754 Newcastle single core on a very cheap motherboard that wasn't long for this world.

AMD K6-2 3d-now as a socket 7 replacement to an intel 486! I think it had a riser card for additional power or clocks or something. Followed quickly by K6-III with its massive cache with an amazing boost to CoD and MoH and GTA. Bought at the Funan centre in Singapore. However thermal Management was dreadful and the chip fried itself. Never AMD again for me.

I voted for Bulldozer. I built my first rig with an FX-6100.

Yea just checked, I basically had a very similar if not the same cooler on my 6400+. 'copper base with heatpipes and a 85 mm fan and yea my Phenom box cooler also had one of those small fans you speak of'
That copper base stock cooler lasted me a very long time tho until I've upgraded to a i 3 4160 with a slightly better than stock cooler.

Mine was a San Diego 3700+
Mine was also the San Diego 3700+ on 939. In fact I still have it up in the attic. I'm pretty sure that it's even loaded full of DDR-400 with a nVidia chipset board.

Athlon 64 X2 4400+

I didn't have this system long ended up replacing it with a core duo quad can't remember the model.

First AMD Sempron 2400+ K7
Second AMD FX 6300 Vishera + Asus M5A97 Evo
