Why are some used video card prices completely out of touch with reality?

Indeed, any bricks and mortar shop will price gouge you, selling older hardware at inflated prices. I try to avoid buying from Overclockers though, because of their dodgy practices.

i have found nvidia cards cost so much more for what performance you are getting and they are the least reliable cards. just look how many faulty nvidia cards there are on ebay compared to ati. thats why they could be more expensive because its harder to find one that works.

Doesn't appear as many here have ever went and bought a card from the top shelf.IMO, my 2 x 7950 GX2 with the invotek, Blackpearl coolers,bought seperate, my 2 x 9800 GX2, The 2 x 512 meg BFG 6800 Ultras @ 999 u.s. each,yeah 1299 can. each when i bought them,F@%^%%**K the whole lot of ya,as they will sit retired as no one appreciates, the capabilities of this hardware , 2 generation old top tier card will still run with todays mid to bottom range in many games. a 3870 x2 for a 100 bucks will give any 100 buck card today a run for its money.

thats why i never sell back my hardware... i prefer to keep that old video card that i paid 600$ then selling it for 40$ .. its sleep in my desk but then 1 day with all the upgrade i've done! BAM i've got enouf part to rebuild another pc ... for free... since i add all the part already paid for lol
