I have an artic freezer pro 7 which is ok for a cheap cooler. I dont think I can OC any more than 3.0ghz I tried yesteray and when the comp booted it kept on turning off and on a few times and then reset the speed to 2.4ghz. I think it may be my mobo as it only support up to 1333mhz

can you do 3Ghz on stock voltage? mine does that in any board except my 680i which seems to hate quad overclocking.

Yeah but my board supports up to 1600MHz FSB and my FSB is over 1700MHz. For 3.2GHz on my B3 I had, I needed 1.37V to get stable in Prime95. Try that. It's all about voltages really too. More voltage, higher clocks. Just keep an eye on temperatures. Maybe you didn't adjust NB, FSB Termination, SB and CPU PPL voltages either.

Yes Wolf I can do 3.0ghz on stock voltage - the bios sets the voltage automatically and I notice that it stays the same. Proc runs up to about 60C load and about 37-40C as I checked just now

Rock God what are NB, FSB Termination, SB and CPU PPL voltages? Please excuse my lack of knowledge here I am fairly new to the black art of OC

If you enter your BIOS and go into the Advanced Features (on my board, it's Advanced Features) and there you can overclock CPU, RAM and adjust voltages. What clock would you like to hit? 3GHz? Or more? 3.4GHz?

I would like to hit 3.2 or so but I am not sure if my cooler will handle it

Well it's all about temperatures. Did you run any benchmarks to check for stability and use like RealTemp to see load temperatures at 3GHz or anything?

Yes I ran the intel stress test (cant remember its name) and also rthdribl_1_2 cant remember the name but it is a direct 3d test I think. Temperatures peaked at about 62C

Ah yeah, admin mode and it will show 2 boxes but when you click on Small FFT's then click ok, it'll go to 4 boxes and run RealTEmp in the background. Any errors, let me know.

if you find Prime 95 a lil more complicated to get all 4 threads going, there's also OCCT. it's another stability test which has expanded to test GPU, CPU, memory, and a few others but each is tested individually and its known for its CPU stressing. usually your max temps will peak around 5-10min of using it. and that's also around the time that if your overclock is unstable it'll let you kno. it's simpler than prime 95 if your new to this stuff. Just open up the app and click the green on button.

Prime says worker #1 to #4 self test so I think it is using all 4 cores. I

Small FFT? If you're at those temperatures/clock speed then you're good I think for 3.4GHz.

yep those are good temperatures, bout where mine are with my Freezer Pro 7, idle ~36 load ~54. my 680i just blows for overclocking quads. what voltage is your cpu currently being fed? OCCT can tell u this
