Don't change your PSU for nothing try it first you'll see

People are to damn crazy these days on PSU (i'll say over 80% of people have an over kill PSU)
people like to spend cash without thinking...

I run an a64 x2 4800+ overclock @3 ghz , Ram @430 (860) 4x HD (3x 80GB Sata2 in raid0 & 1x 640 GB sata2 backup), Sap 5750 Vapor-x oc @900/1300 (MSI Overdrive) , 1 DVD burner , Keyboard , mouse & gamepad USB ,Printer ,blah! , blah!

All that on an Cooler Master 500w with 2x 12v Rail of 16amps each & i have no problem at all running anything.

thats true, like me for example, my system with a 850Watt PSU :)

thats a low power system. i'd be surprised if you even hit 250W load on that.

If you tried it with a more power hungry video card, you'd run into problems almost immediately.

i'm sorry but i think your wrong about people getting over kill PSU,most people in this forum has done research and saved themselves money by going with whatever power they want.
The price i paid for my PSU is probably same price i paid for your cooler master 500w,reason most of us recommend better PSU is so he don't fry the whole rig.
If people do their research then they should realize they don't need spend big money on some 1000w psu on a rig that only need 400w.

over half the systems on TPU would use less than 400W of power, to be honest. mine hits 450W load with TWO 4870's.

Thing is, even using 600W PSU's i managed to trip 12V rails all the time, cause the PSU's never had the power on the right rails - THAT is the problem with the cheap ass PSU's.

While it may be true that most overspec their powers supplies, think about it this way.
Of all the components in your pc, this one can do the most damage if it fails. So why not have more than you need, thus not stressing the components, and having some safety margin?

Besides, investing in a good power supply that will cope with upgrades makes more sense in the long run. Corsairs have a 5 year warranty. That's quite some time.

Better quality PSU as nothing to do with more "power" (watts) & why spend more than you ever need?

My point is , he's already have what it would seems like a fairly good PSU (enough amps on the 12v rail) so why spend more cash when he may not need more?

He should try it first if all works then good for him & his wallet if not then buy a new one , beside his board doesn't support SLI or Crossfire (single PCIe) so i'm sure i'll be just fine with his 500w PSU
