Windows 11 Finally Overtakes Windows 10 as the Most Dominant Operating System

I've tried. The upgrade tool said my CPU wasn't supported.
You will need to fresh install with a fresh ISO from microsoft and use Rufus to make your install media.
When prompted, select the following options.

Please note, if you still want to use a microsoft account and bitlocker, you can, they're just not forced on you by default.

Wow that win7 holdout!!!

Nice
Oh yes sir! Of course, my Win7 systems are no longer allowed online without VERY strict firewall and app management rules in place. Even then, these days, it's rare..

Hey that's cool, I just switched off 11 to Fedora. It's good to be the 4.1%:
Windows70.07%
OS X9.91%
Unknown9.18%
macOS5.48%
Linux4.1%
Chrome OS1.25%
That graph has no merit or meaning without a citation. I say this because your graph has OSX, a flavor of MacOS, and then MacOS listed again in the same list. So, I'm calling absolute moose muffins on that crap.

In my case it was that Microsoft finally released a version that would install bug free (as far as I know) on the i9-7900X.
I 'm still wait for the Ryzen 9 5950X to get the same treatment.

Maybe the figure for MacOS is OS 9.6 for the 32 bit PowerPC users?

If that is the case, then it's surprising there are still so many mac users with PowerPC systems.
But the stats are from Statcounter, not sure how they are polling OSX vs MacOS though.

Tried Win11 once on my laptop back in 2023, the fact that such a basic UI couldn't run smoothly on a Coffee Lake iGPU was disgusting enough for me. Went back to 10 immediately and haven't upgraded to this day.
Still not sure which path to take before the EoL. Reviewers have shown awful performance drops on 11 in the games that I play.

You should give the following a go;

well, I'm "OK" now in installing 11 same as my recent thoughts about 10, taking into account last few years tendency with windows updates broke stuff like crazy:
I got 11 21H2 on 10-gen Intel PC - stable and no "extra" crap from recent builds (plus no some old apps removal by MS), now planning to finally update 10 20H2 on Intel 14-gen PC to 11 22H2 - 11 build with time of CPU release time (considering that 14-gen is just 13-gen refresh), without any later SHITdates (updates) by MS.:)
just blocking "target release version" and thing works as it SHOULD, not like MS likes to see users as beta-testers.

EoL means NOTHING like marketing trick to force users to update to 11. Well, MAYBE it's "a must" for big corp/gov enterprise users to have that latest security patches....

Practical limitations, none.

Store or store apps not installed by default, but can be manually installed.
Some defaults are different such as no onedrive by default.

The main difference is licensing and support duration.

There is actually less limitations.

Some examples, can set telemetry to a lower level, can use applocker.
Basically the only kind of Windows people really want, even if they don't know it yet.

It underlines once again that Microsoft knows full well what it is doing and how fucked up it is towards a large part of the customer base.
And it underlines you shouldn't be in that space at all.

I'm more impressed that Win7 is still not yet dead (above 2% based on the bar graph version), despite MS doing everything they could to kill it to get people onto Win10. Heck, it's outlived Win8/8.1, which is at sub-1%.

Granted, I'm one of those; I still have a Win7 I keep around more for having the special Signature Edition theme pack that was exclusive to certain early Launch versions of Win7 (all of which were also Win7 Ultimates with a custom theme).

The data is from Statcounter, the same source as the article, but not just Windows. Here's the chart form.

Well, it is just natural. It is not an option anymore, people will have to switch as MS is retiring windows 10. I use both, and I hate both. I wish I can still use 7. At least it is there in a VM for testing purposes.

hey, using Windows 10 Pro 19045.5965 here and i'm now having severe doubts about how snappy and repsonsive it really is.

just today i've managed to restart my PC thrice, all because in the previous two times i tried to use it today (each one requiring a full reboot), it couldn't even recognize my Wi-Fi USB thing, and second time i booted it it couldn't even recognize my USB keyboard anymore. so i restarted my PC for the third time, and what did i get for all that trouble, you ask?

well, this time, it did recognize a wireless USB Wi-Fi adapter, and it did recognize a USB keyboard of all things, but was it snappy and responsive? oh god no.

boot-up times here took about basically 20 minutes here, and from there on out, i'd get occasional hiccups and freezes every. single. time.

Windows Explorer - a crucial process app that basically runs for the lifetime of your Windows 10 session - simply cannot resist getting a single momentary freeze that takes down all other apps and even KB+M responsiveness with it. what the hell.
This is not really a windows 10 thing. This'll be an issue specific to your computer.
