I'm in need of a new mp3 player with a high storage capacity, I'd rather be brutally sodomized with a broken glass bottle than to own any MAC product so that rules out ipod

my current Creative Zen 30gb doesn't have a high enough storage capacity and plus I'm sick of it constantly freezing.

So my only last choice really is the Zune (120gb should do) which I'll prob buy over ebay or something but I'm unsure of certain aspects of it such as does it need some stupid docking software to work on my PC? and are they region locked like my xbox 360? (Example: if they ever get released in Australia which i highly doubt and i get something that can be installed into the mp3 player will it work? or will i have to get a US version) and last but not least does it allow you to upload pirated mp3/mp4 onto it? (i have MP3 albums of a few of my old CDs that have been stolen over the years)

Note: before any MAC supporters flame me please understand I was using MACs years before i even knew what a PC was and many years ago MACs were horrible things to use and thats what i associate with the MAC image and i have no interest in checking out anything to do with any of there latest products.

Zune's kick A$$!!!!!

I bought a Zune 4GB, and love it! You don't need a dock, they are not region locked, and you can load any MP3/MP4 file you want to it. Plus, the software is awesome:)

ahh thats cool but by dock i meant a special software program to transfer the data :P
like if i took it to a mates place and he grabbed a video off it would he need any ZUNE based software or would it jsut plug and play?

I got my G/F a Zune 30GB Gen 1 for x-mas last year and a Zune 4GB gen 1 for my mother's b-day this year, both have worked without issues, good sound quality, easy to work with, very easy to work with, amazing FM reception for those times you don't wanna listen to podcasts, watch movies/video or listen to your music collection.

Though I would recommend the newer generations of zunes that support the HD .264 standard, as the originals only support avi and wmv formats iirc.

Don't know why you think you would get flamed. But I will say that the shitty Macs of yesteryear are no more. Anything OS9 and back was hell, but OS X actually made the things enjoyable to use.

That said, I think both the Zune and iPod are great choices. Both have great features and aftermarket accessory support, with the iPod edging Zune out in accessories, and the Zune edging out iPod in stock features.

ahh lol couple of years back when i got my creative Zen vision M i posted on another forum i wanted a mp3 player that wasn't made by MAC a few ppl flamed me xD

but yeah i know MAC has improved a lot over time but to me they will still and always be those clanky things that caused me a lot of headaches back in the mid 90's xD

hehe yeah I'm going to get the 3rd gen 120gb Zune :P
They cost about $440 AUD off ebay here but thats not much more than what my 30gb Zen cost me a couple of years ago really.

I use my Zune with the car pack and the regular software. Never had a problem, always a pleasure.

Ever heard of the phrase "a house divided"? That's how it is with me and my parents on the whole Zune/Ipod, Computer/Mac, and Xbox/Ps3. I've used both, and I will still say I will pick my Zune hands down. I've never had a problem with it being a hdd vs, the problems I had with the Ipod being a flash drive.. It can with stand more abuse then what the Ipod can. Trust me, I've taken it to hell and back with me!

I will say, Wile E hit it on the nail when he said what Zune has over the Ipod, and what the Ipod has over the Zune.

Bought my wife a Zune for her birthday and she loves it. I also love it. I would get a Zune over any other player honestly.

thx everyone for the help =D

P.s: batmang your avatar rocks lol

1.) Yes, it requires the Zune software installed on the computer to work. I think there are some work arounds, but none that are really great, just use the zune software, it is actually decent.
2.) No, its not region locked.
3.) As long as the media has not DRM on it, and the player supports it, you can use it. I have my 30GB Zune almost full, and haven't purchased a single song. It is all pirated/downloaded MP3s and ripped MP3s from my CD collection.

Not a flame, more of the opposite. After purchasing my wife an 8GB iPod Nano 4th Gen. I must say my thoughts about Macs and Apple have totally changed. So just letting you know if you cannot find that Zune you want. iPod is really good. ;)

Zunes last longer than Ipod, and cracking the case to make a repair is as easy as prying it open with a pocket knife, unscrewing 2 screws, unplugging one component and replacing it with another.

There's also expandability!

I've got my 1st gen 30gb using a 100gb drive.
