Angelbird Announces CFexpress Cards

Angelbird Technologies, the premier developer of camera-specific media for professional creatives, announces the addition of CFexpress Type B memory cards to their high-performance lineup of AV PRO media solutions. The call for quick adoption of advanced digital video production standards to 6K, 8K and beyond, is being driven by high-profile international broadcasting as well as an increased need for industrial data processing and performance requirements. CFexpress memory media meets the high-speed demands of new technology (media that can write data at a minimum of 400 MB/sec).

It also mirrors the XQD form factor-- allowing select cameras that currently utilize XQD to now also accept CFexpress with a firmware update. But different from XQD, is that the CFexpress adopts the PCIe Gen 3 interface standards promoted by the CompactFlash Association. Angelbird's AV PRO CFX and AV PRO CFX XT offer read/write speeds up to 1700 MB/s and 1400 MB/s. CFexpress memory cards perform at speeds 3.5x faster than CFast technology- the current memory card leader for high-bitrate video production.

ARRI and Angelbird introduce CFast 2.0 Memory Card

ARRI is introducing the ARRI Edition AV PRO AR 256 CFast 2.0 card by Angelbird. The card has been designed and certified for use in the ALEXA Mini and AMIRA camera systems and can be used for ProRes and MXF/ARRIRAW recording. ARRI has worked closely with Angelbird Technologies GmbH, a hi-tech company based in Vorarlberg, Austria. Angelbird is no stranger to film production, and some of their gear can be found at ARRI Rental European locations. The company's young yet experienced team has a passion for quality and great attention to detail.

"Many of the CFast cards we tested delivered good results, but it usually takes the manufacturers a few attempts to stabilize their performance for high data-rate write patterns," says Oliver Temmler, Product Manager for Storage Media at the ARRI headquarters in Munich, Germany. "Angelbird really stood out-they listened to us closely and quickly determined which parameters they had to tweak."

Angelbird Announces AtomX SSDmini

Every modern video shooter needs to have reliable kit that functions efficiently and handles well-only this way can you focus on your creativity and craft. In media, traditional SSDs have provided a solid, affordable, high-performance solution for professionals. Atomos have pioneered this with their open media policy on their devices-allowing you the freedom to use different SATA-based SSD media to deliver 4K for the cost of HD. This has allowed us to push the boundaries of technology and price/performance.

Angelbird has previously delivered the high performance, enterprise-class 4K RAW in partnership with Atomos-built for the highest level of performance and reliability to match demanding 4K, 2K high frame rate, HDR, and RAW workflows up to 5.7K. Now Angelbird has again worked with Atomos to deliver the AtomX SSDmini, offering incredible performance and SATA interface but with a much smaller form factor. Break free from the traditional 2.5" drive form factor that has been around for years and has its origins in IT systems. The AtomX SSDmini utilizes the same SATA III connector but reduces the dimensions to be only 7 mm high and 80 mm long.

Angelbird Unveils Two New PCIe SSDs

Austrian SSD maker Angelbird unveiled two new PCIe SSDs at Computex, the Wings MX2 and the Wings X2. The Wings MX2 is simple SSD with a PCI-Express 3.0 x4 host interface, and similar chops to today's M.2 (32 Gb/s) SSDs; and should appeal to enthusiasts with older boards that lack M.2 slots. The Wings X2, on the other hand, is a RAID-on-a-stick card. Its main PCB is essentially a SATA RAID card with two SATA 6 Gb/s back-planes. With two 2.5-inch SSDs (possibly the company's own Wings or SSDWrk-series drives installed, the controller puts out a host-abstract RAID 0 volume.

Noctua Products Help Achieve PCMark05 World Record

Austrian tweaking specialists o.v.e.r.clockers.at today set a new world record in the renowned performance test PCMark05. Throughout the entire project, Noctua fans, CPU coolers and thermal compound played a key role.

During last Friday's live event hosted by the Austrian SSD manufacturer Angelbird, o.v.e.r.clockers.at already managed to break the previous world record in Futuremark's popular benchmarking suite PCMark05, but since their best CPU and motherboard fell victim to the extreme tweaking, the Austrian overclocking specialists failed to pass the
60.000 point mark. Today, o.v.e.r.clockers.at set out to make another attempt, but US overclockers had topped their previous record overnight and pushed the bar to a breathtaking 62.759 points - more than the Austrian's had hoped to achieve. Taking up the challenge nonetheless, o.v.e.r.clockers.at squeezed the absolute maximum out of their system.

Orange Systems Announces Wings Modular PCIe SSD

Japanese company Orange Systems announced a new modular PCI Express SSD, the "Wings" series, which is a collection of products: the PCIe SSD card, its SSD subunits that have to be purchased separately, and those subunits in hard cases that turn them into 2.5-inch simple SSDs. To begin with, Angelbird has three PCIe SSD main card variants: "Lite", 16 GB, and 32 GB. These cards are basically PCI Express x4 SATA 3 Gb/s RAID cards that have SATA power+data interfaces on the card. The 16 GB and 32 GB cards have a localized SSD subunit on the board, while the "lite" variant has no localized subunit, and relies entirely on attached subunits.

These subunits are basically 2.5-inch SSD PCBs stripped of their cases, which Orange Systems refers to as Wings Expansion Cartridges, which are basically SandForce SF-1220 driven SSDs with MLC NAND flash, available in capacities of 60 GB, 115 GB, and 240 GB. When attached in pairs to the Wings PCIe SSD card, the card's main controller runs them in a RAID 0 configuration that is abstract to the host, delivering increased performance. Lastly, these "Expansion Cartridges" are available with their outer shells, branded as "Crest SSDs".
