Intel Rocket Lake-S CPU Pushed to 6.9 GHz on LN2

An Intel Rocket Lake-S CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads has recently surfaced in an overclocking video, being pushed to 6.923 GHz operating frequency, as showcased via a CPU-Z screen-grabbed from the video. Neither author of the video or the overclocker that pulled this feat are currently known. However, it can be seen from the CPU-Z that the overclocked CPU at 6.9 GHz supports instruction sets not available to Intel's current lineup of desktop CPUs, but that will be supported by Rocket Lake-S: namely, SHA and AVX512F. Likewise, the cache sizes correspond to the expected changes for Intel's Rocket Lake-S.

The overclocked CPU was paired with overclocked DDR4 memory as well, which was brought up to 6,666 MHz, buoyed by a crispy 1.830 V. Motherboard information is scarce, but it's speculated that it's a Gigabyte-branded Z590 motherboard. Perhaps this video is part of an Intel-pushed marketing attempt to increase desirability of its Rocket Lake-S CPUs to overclockers and enthusiasts. Expect the official Rocket Lake-S unveiling to occur during CES, with market availability around March.

GIGABYTE Z590 AORUS Xtreme Pictured

Here's the first picture of GIGABYTE's next-generation flagship Socket LGA1200 motherboard based on Intel Z590 chipset, with out-of-the-box support for 11th Gen Core "Rocket Lake" desktop processors, the Z590 AORUS Xtreme. Featuring the company's most premium component selection, the board pulls power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and two 8-pin EPS power connectors, conditioning it for the CPU using a massive 21-phase VRM. The only expansion slots on this board are three PCI-Express x16, from which at least two are wired to the CPU (Gen 4.0 x16 or Gen 4.0 x8/x8 with Rocket Lake, Gen 3.0 with Comet Lake); with the third slot being wired to the PCH. Underneath the cladding are three M.2 NVMe slots, from which one is Gen 4.0 x4, and wired to the CPU, while the others are wired to the PCH.

The GIGABYTE Z590 AORUS Xtreme reportedly one-ups the current generation with new connectivity that includes Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax over 6 GHz radio band), and Thunderbolt 4. The board also features 20 Gbps USB 3.2x2 ports, and wired networking options that include 10 GbE and 2.5 GbE. The board will also be among the first to feature the latest Realtek ALC4080 audio CODEC that replaces the ALC1220 as the company's most premium CODEC. The main stereo channel on the board will still be pulled by an ESS Sabre Reference DAC. We should learn more about this board around mid-January, when Intel is expected to allow its motherboard partners to announce their Intel 500-series chipset products.

GPUs to See Price Increase Due to Import Tariffs, Other PC Components to Follow

Yesterday, we have reported that ASUS is officially increasing the prices of their graphics cards and motherboards, due to increased component and logistics costs. What the company meant by that was not exactly clear to everyone, as it looked like the company has adjusted to the current market prices exceeding the MSRP of components like graphics cards. The GPUs are today selling at much higher prices compared to the original MSRP and it is representing a real problem for consumers. Today, we get to see what is the underlying problem behind the announcement we saw yesterday and if we are going to see more of that in the close future.

According to the New York Times, the Chinese import tariff exemptions have expired with the arrival of a new year (2021) and we can expect the tariffs to start from 7.5%-25%, which will massively increase component costs. A Reddit user has noted that MSRP will increase about $80 for every major GPU manufacturer like ASUS, GIGABYTE, PNY, Zotac, etc. so we are expecting MSRP adjustment from other companies to follow just like ASUS did. The import tariff exemptions are also supposed to increase MSRPs of other PC components like motherboards, SSDs, PSUs, cases... everything without exemption. As a product of a trade war between China and the Trump administration, it remains a question will these tariffs get easier shortly, so consumers can afford their desired components.

Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti EAGLE Graphics Cards Put on Display... By Bosnian Retailer

CPU Infotech, a Bosnian retailer of computer hardware, recently posted a photo of their latest inventory entries on Facebook. The photo showcased the newly/received Gigabyte RTX 3060 Ti EAGLE graphics cards, one of Gigabyte's designs for this particular SKU. The RTX 3060 Ti EAGLE features a dual-slot, dual-fan cooler design that's the smallest seen on any Ampere graphics card to date. The retailer announces that the inventory should be for sale pretty soon - and all publicly available information points towards a December 2nd release date for the RTX 3060 Ti.

The RTX 3060 Ti is supposed to beat NVIDIA's previous RTX 2080 SUPER graphics cards in performance, whilst costing half of that cards' launch asking price at $399. This should make this one of the most interesting performance-per-dollar graphics cards in NVIDIA's lineup. The RTX 3060 Ti is reportedly based on the same 8 nm "GA104" silicon as the RTX 3070, with further cuts. It features 38 out of the 48 available streaming multiprocessors on "GA104". This amounts to 4,864 "Ampere" CUDA cores, 152 tensor cores, and 38 "Ampere" RT cores. The memory configuration is unchanged from the RTX 3070, which translates to 8 GB of 14 Gbps GDDR6 memory across a 256-bit wide memory interface, with 448 GB/s of memory bandwidth. This marks the first time in years NVIDIA has launched a Ti model before the regular-numbered SKU in a given series, showcasing just how intense AMD competition is expected to be.

Connectivity is highlighted by four display outputs—one each of HDMI 2.0a, DisplayPort, and two USB-C with DP passthroughs. Networking connectivity includes 2.5 GbE and 802.11ax + Bluetooth 5.1 WLAN.

As for the specific models, the GB-BRR7H-4700 is powered by a Ryzen 7 4700U, the GB-BRR5H-4500 by a Ryzen 5 4500U, and the GB-BRR3H-4300 by the Ryzen 3 4300U. All three feature two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots, and a vacant M.2-2280 slot, so you're expected to drop in your own memory and storage. All three include VESA mounting brackets, so you can tuck them behind your monitor, if it has VESA wall-mounts. The power bricks included with all three can put out 135 W of power. The company didn't reveal pricing.
