Microsoft Kinect Technology En Route Laptops

It's no secret that Microsoft's proprietary gesture-recognition technology it originally launched on the Xbox platform, is making its way to PCs, as software developers have access to Kinect for Windows SDK. They will, instead, be embedded into notebook display bezels the way web-cameras are.

The Daily reports that it has seen a pair of notebook prototypes that appeared to have been "ASUS notebooks running Windows 8," with their web-cam replaced by a row of optical sensors on top of the screen, and a row of LEDs said to be at the bottom. Some might think that this is ASUS' very own Kinect-alternative WAVI Xtion, but The Daily also confirmed with a source at Microsoft that these prototypes are indeed of notebooks that are Kinect-enabled.

Eurocom Lets Loose D901C Phantom-X 'Server' Laptop

Eurocom has launched the D901C Phantom-X laptop, a piece of machinery you don't see every day. It is no accident that the word server is being used in the title. Lenovo Quietly Axes Last 4:3 Ratio ThinkPad T Series

Electronista writes that Lenovo has decided to cease production of the 4:3 screen ratio Thinkpad T61, withdrawing units from stores. Lenovo now offers all its mid-size notebooks, including the 3000 and IdeaPad series, only in a widescreen ratio. The change represents the end to one of the last clear holdouts from IBM's notebook offerings, which used the taller but narrower screen ratio for virtually all its ThinkPad notebooks until the brand name was handed over to Lenovo in 2005. The X61 tablet and its conventional alternative are currently the only Lenovo notebooks to still depend on a standard ratio screen and may be replaced in the future by the X200 series as part of the China-based company's move to capitalize on the success of the X300.
