Corsair redefines power supply efficiency at CeBIT

Corsair, known for making quite good RAM among other things, is apparently really getting serious about the power supply business. Most power supplies on the market today are anywhere between 50 and 85% efficient, with the vast majority of power supplies being between 75 and 85% efficient under load. Corsair had a brilliant power supply at their CeBIT booth, which had an impressive 90% load efficiency. This allowed it to power an AMD QuadFX system with G80 SLI, 4GB of PC2-8000 DDR2 RAM, and a 150GB hard drive with a 620W power supply (most people at the show expected an 850W-1kW PSU to be required). To be honest, Corsair has actually had this power supply on the market for a while, and probably couldn't wait for CeBIT to make it available. You can get this extremely efficient power supply here (oh look it's on sale).

OCZ Technology Announces the 1010 Watt GameXStream Power Supply

OCZ Technology Group, a worldwide leader in innovative, ultra-high performance and high reliability memory and components, today announced the addition of an 1010W power supply to the GameXStream family. Building on the acclaimed performance and features of the OCZ NVIDIA SLI-Ready GameXStream series, the new 1010W configuration offers a more powerful solution for today's advanced PC systems in the same compact form factor that is an advantage to many gamers and system builders.

It's all about POWER!

I had some sort of a debate lately regarding overrated power supplies and their necessity. And when I came to browse through the websites that I read on a weekly basis afterwards I found a very interesting article about how to prevent electrical fires caused by draining too much power from the wall outlets. Though the stated formulae, calculations and hardware devices are dedicated to the '110V world' only the theory behind is applicable to the rest of us with ease.

Thermaltake releases Toughpower 1000W/1200W power supply

February, 2007 - Thermaltake Technology, the world's leading brand for high-end chassis and high-performance power supply, is launching world's first 1200W as well as 1000W to its Toughpower line of high-grade and high-efficiency power supplies. The new additions are the responses to higher power demand from both ATI and Nvidia's graphic card consumption that allows for unprecedented graphic realism and image quality. Today's high-end graphic card will require as much as 300W of power alone and with the popularity of multi graphic card configurations, users are expected to allocate aside at least 600W just for graphic cards.

Koolance 1200W Liquid-Cooled Power Supply

Koolance is now offering the world's first liquid-cooled ATX power supply rated at 1200W continuous and 1400W peak power. The PSU-1200ATX-12S features 96A over four 12V rails, modular cables, and 4 PCI-Express connectors for SLI and CrossFire support. It is able to unleash 1200W of continuous (1400W peak) power at greater than 80% efficiency by operating in a completely submerged state. All internal electronics are immersed in a non-conductive fluid and dissipated through an external heat exchanger, cooled by a temperature-controlled 120mm LED fan. The unit comes pre-filled and no ongoing coolant maintenance is required. The PSU-1200ATX-12S can be used in most ATX, E-ATX, and BTX chassis that provide for 9" (23cm) power supply depths, including cable space. The external heat exchanger can be rotated 180 degrees and moved vertically 2" (5cm) to avoid physical conflicts. The Koolance 1200W Liquid-Cooled PSU should be available after Feb 28, 2007 for $499.99 USD.

New eight-pin PCI Express GPU power connector leaked

It is no surprise that the current 75W six-pin power connector isn't giving graphics cards enough electricity. The NVIDIA 8800GTX uses two connectors to give it enough power, and we can only speculate as to how much power AMD's upcoming R600 will use. And so, a new eight-pin power connector has been leaked, and should arrive just in time to power the R600 (if needed).

OCZ Technology Announces the New ProXStream, a Server-Class 1000W Power Supply for Enthusiasts and H

OCZ Technology Group, a worldwide leader in innovative, ultra-high performance and high reliability memory and power supplies, today announced the launch of the ProXStream power supply series, a new high performance PSU that was first showcased at the recent 2007 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. OCZ engineered the ProXStream to provide ample power to even the most demanding high-end systems. Incorporated in a small and diverse form factor, the ProXStream 1000W core is extremely efficient and very practical, as it can be integrated into just about any chassis.

Cooler Master 1000W PSU

Hexus.net has has some exclusive screenshots of Cooler Master's first 1000W power supply unit. Named RS-A00-EMBA 1000W, this PSU comes with modular design, six +12V rails and a max wattage of 1000W. The biggest thing to note in RS-A00-EMBA is the inclusion of two types of PCI-e connectors 4x 6pin connectors or 2x 8pin varient specially for NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX Series video cards. Cooler Master is still putting the finishing touches to their brand new power supply. There's no official release date, but if you want to see some more pictures, please click here.

PSUs edge closer to 2000W

More demanding graphics cards have been the main culprit for extra power requirements over recent years, with CPUs starting to become slightly more efficient. However, both ULTRA and OCZ are preparing for the future by working towards the 2000W mark. OCZ took the approach of combining two 900W PSUs inside an enormous external chassis which connects to a smaller, standard sized unit. This results in the image you can see on the left above. ULTRA's approach was noticeably different, using a single chassis system (larger than a standard PSU) with separate power elements for the 12V, providing 150 amps of current to anything connected to that rail, shown on the right. Because the US electric current is specified at 15A per socket, both PSUs would each need two cables when being used there, but in Europe one socket should be sufficient.

Ultra To Unveil 2000W PSU At CES

Ultra Products, a global leader in technology solutions, today announces that it will unveil the world's first 2000W ATX Power Supply Unit for the PC at next week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
