Asustor AS3102T 2-bay NAS Review

ADM's Settings & Options Part #2 »

General Settings

The General tab allows you to change default HTTP/HTTPS ports, set the language, and configure an automatic log-out timer. This tab also includes options to configure the login page's look.

Network Settings

Network settings are very important to NAS servers, and you will have to use these options often, so you had better familiarize yourself with these. These settings allow you to set the server name, which will identify the NAS to the network, default gateway, and the IP LAN port ID. The AS3102T only has a single Gigabit Ethernet port, so there are no LAN-teaming options. These options also allow you to set the Wi-Fi dongle's properties; that is, if you have one attached to the NAS.

VPN Settings

ADM includes a VPN client through which the NAS can connect to VPN servers via PPTP or OpenVPN protocols. It also supports the creation of multiple VPN connection profiles, which gives users the ability to easily switch between different VPN networks.

Regional Options

Use the Regional options to set date and time, time zone, display format, and daylight saving time.

Hardware Settings

The Hardware tab has many configurable options as it allows you to, for example, adjust the brightness of the NAS server's LED indicators. You can also enable or disable the buzzer for various events, disable the reset button on the back, set the disk-hibernation time, and enable or disable EuP Mode. Attention must be given to the fact that enabling EuP will disable Sleep Mode, Auto Power Resume, Wake-on-Lan, and Power Scheduling Services.

Notifications

You can configure the NAS to alert you via notifications over several communication channels, such as email, SMS, etc., once your system encounters a significant problem or an important event occurs.

ADM Defender

ADM includes a firewall and Network Defender application to effectively protect the NAS from network attacks.

ADM Update

There is a Live Update feature, which you should enable if you want ADM to inform you of available updates.

Network Recycle Bin

You can enable the Network Recycle Bin option for some additional protection against accidental data loss, but you should be careful with this option if you frequently erase a lot of data.

Energy Saver

Many energy saving options can be found here. The Wake-On-Lan (WOL) feature can't be enabled if you have EuP enabled.

Ease of Access

This menu includes all options related to easily controlling the NAS remotely over the Web.

Factory Default

This option should be used carefully since it defaults the NAS, which will cause all stored data on its installed disks and your settings to be erased after system initialization.

Registration

You have to obtain an Asustor ID, which is free, in order to access some of the NAS server's advanced features, like Cloud Connect or its application download services.
