Cooler Master MP510 Mouse Pad Review

Packaging

The MP510 follows the packaging style of most recent Cooler Master products, meaning a lot of purple and dark gray colors with big white lettering. The box has some specifications, a product image, and a size chart. Inside is the mouse pad only, which means no goodies, but also less trash (however, the pad is foiled up for some reason).

Size and Surface

There are a total of four size variants for the Cooler Master MP510 mouse pads:

Small: 250 mm x 210 mm x 3 mm (9.84" x 8.27" x 0.12")
Medium: 320 mm x 270 mm x 3 mm (12.60" x 10.63" x 0.12")
Large: 450 mm x 350 mm x 3 mm (17.72" x 13.78" x 0.12")
XL: 900 mm x 400 mm x 3 mm (31.50" x 11.81" x 0.12")

In this review, you will see the medium variant in the pictures.

The pad needed some time to lay out flat in order to be usable—I just let it lay out overnight without any added weight on top, and it laid out flat almost perfect. It still needed some time, but most mouse pads of this thickness (and with stitched edges) do. I would say it should completely flatten out in a matter of a few days.

The surface is definitely one of the most interesting parts of this product as it is made out of Cordura, a highly durable nylon fabric. There are many types of this material, and this one is a rather densely-woven, yet rather rough variant with a honeycomb-like texture to it. To the touch, it's definitely the roughest soft mouse pad I've ever dealt with, and it surely is a strange sensation at first. The mouse acts differently on it than on most of my other pads, which takes some getting used to.

I've noticed that my mice with bigger feet offer a smoother glide on this mat, and I've also noticed that my modded G PRO Wireless (that only has four small Logitech G1 feet) can scrape the pad upon higher pressure. This led to some slight tracking instabilities, more on that under the performance section.

The CM hexagon logo on the MP510 actually glows in the dark, but my camera couldn't capture that properly. It's a funky feature, and I like it, but don't expect any proper RGB-level lighting from it as it's just a standard green fluorescent light.

Underside

The backing is made out of regular, textured rubber that's slightly different to the "overused" OEM variants. This one tends to stick to the tabletop better, which is good news, though it depends on the desk surface as well. Overall, the backing has enough traction to where the mouse pad won't move around the table after even big swipes with the mouse.

In this picture, you can see a macro close-up of the texture on the bottom.
