HyperX Alloy Elite Keyboard Review

Introduction

HyperX Logo

HyperX made their debut in TechPowerUp's review database earlier this year with the Alloy FPS keyboard - a minimalist gaming keyboard featuring genuine Cherry MX switches at a decent price at the time. Things have changed quite a bit since then, however, with the stacked keyboard market in the sub-$100 range getting ever more crowded and competitive. HyperX decided to fancy their chances in a slightly less competitive price segment while also improving upon the Alloy FPS by addressing some of the things customers wanted to see - dedicated media controls and a wrist rest in particular. Enter the Alloy Elite, and thanks again to HyperX for providing us with a review sample.

The Alloy Elite is a full-size, modified ANSI layout keyboard from HyperX. I am not aware of other layouts being supported at this time, so keep that in mind. The layout's modification comes primarily via added functionality due to dedicated media controls in the keyboard's top-right corner, to go with some lighting control buttons on the left. This extra layer of buttons on top is separated from the rest of the keyboard with a lightbar in between, and combined with the wrist rest, makes for a keyboard that takes up significantly more room than the barebones-designed HyperX Alloy FPS did. Oh, there is backlighting here too as seen from the image above. To know what else is here, let's begin the review with a look at the specifications below.
